I bought a beginner leather kit (Tandy EZ-Do version) at the local hobby store over the weekend and was hooked right from the start!  I spent about 10 hours stamping/staining/stitching everything and I'm quite proud of my creations.  I saw that the next higher quality kit was on sale this month at Tandy, and I've already placed my order.  Looking forward to trying my hand at carving!

I am a leather worker for the 3rd U.S. Info. Regiment (t
THE OLD GUARD). We hand make all the horse tack that's used for the Full Honor Funerals in Arlington National Cemetery. All of our tack we make is based out of the 1916 field artillery quartermaster drawings. We also work on some western tack that we have for trail rides...etc. we use the 1904 & the 1928 mcclellen sadles.

Take great pleasure in working with leather and stitching by hand. Yes there is non-uniform presentation to the process & the shredding of thy fingers, but yet pride becomes at the end of project.

I have posted a variety of the leather items I have been learning on for the past year, just to keep the conversation going.

I am looking forward to earning some cash to buy a Leather Sewing machine, it would greatly increase my productivity.

The hand stitching is the most time consuming and frustrating part for me. From the hole punching, to the double needle work, it wrecks my hands, takes a ton of time and totally blows!
