I'm looking for a good sharpening stone and would appreciate all recommendations. I'm relatively new to knives so i just need a good beginner stone.

Thanks

Do you need one small enough to pocket/pack - or a larger bench stone?

For full size, dedicated sharpening - I really like my 8x2.5 combination soft/hard arkansas stone from Dan's whetstone company. That plus a strop loaded with green bark river compound serve 90% of my sharpening needs.
