The current status is that a PhD might make it harder for you to find a job. The son of a distinguished researcher in Canada that I know had a PhD, got no jobs with his PhD ... but when he disguised it as "research project", and only mentioned his MSc as his highest degree, he got a job rather easily. Maybe worth doing a double Masters instead, if you are thinking about employability.

Thanks for the input Saxon. I'm not real gung ho about it -- MEd was hard enough on family. On the other hand, I want to remain employable for a number of years.

A PhD is a *lot* of work, but it is also a very interesting project. Weigh it against other things in your life. If you have a wife ... well, make sure you have a wife when you finish your PhD; they tend to wear down marriages.

Wondering about the necessity of another degree. Seems like online education is pushing for PhD's. What do you guys think?
