I've seen lots of articles (wish I had the links to them) about how atheists are trusted less than Muslims in America. Atheists are seemingly the only minority that it is okay to ridicule. Anyhow, my friend linked this video and it brought all these thoughts to the forefront of my mind. Take a look.

Well, if the point of that video is to indicate that this is anything new, it isn't. Of course theists are going to denounce atheists. They always have. The attitude of ideologues towards anyone who doesn't give obeisance to their beliefs, be they religious or political, is to denounce them as an enemy, a heretic, a threat to society, blah, blah, blah. Same as it ever was.

Well, I agree to a certain extent. I think many theists don't take into account the contributions of atheists. But telling theists that Jodi Foster or Isaac Asimov are atheists is not going to make a single bit of difference to them in the long run. Dogma is immune to fact.

I've never had a persecution complex over being an atheist. I actually think most people are atheists but won't admit it, and balk when other people won't play along.

Yeah, you might be on to something there.

Permalink Reply by Wayne W. on December 11, 2012 at 10:49pm I spent every Wednesday afternoon and Sunday morning in Church until the age of 16. At that time, I decided (against the wishes of my parents) that I was done with organized religion.
I must laugh...I AM spiritual, not religious...but my spirits are the ones that live in the meadows and woods that I love, the spirit of the mists, the spirits of cold winter nights, and the sprites and nymphs that dwell in the marshs and wetlands around my summer home.
I do commune with these spirits of nature, and they are alive to me....especially after a couple of beers, or a few glasses of wine. I know they are there....I can feel them everywhere!
Now, you can ALL do a collective 'eye roll'....(lol...) Its OK...you're allowed. My question is: does this make me 'Pagen' in the Roman sense - a "Country Dweller"?
Just one person's opinion.
