I was thinking of upgrading my calculator. I have a ti-83 plus from High school which is now about 6 years ago, I would like one that converts from hex to decimal I don't need like a virtual pc in my bag just something that is a better than the 83.
If you have a smart phone there are plenty of apps to convert hex to binary, to decimal, to oct, and so on, at least for android. I haven't really used anything other than a basic scientific calculator since highschool. If it is anything like the way it was then, high end calculators aren't worth the price. If you have windows or linux the built in calculators both convert unit if you set them to the advanced/programming views (I have no Idea about mac, but I'm sure there is one in the app store if nothing else). I know that you said you don't want a virtual PC in your pocket and that is exactly what I just suggested you use, but I don't imagine you are just strolling through the park, or sitting on the couch, converting bases, so why not have the calculator right where you are going to use it.
Otherwise there's always the old fashioned way of converting bases: VxB^P + VxB^P...
