On a whim, I picked up a relatively inexpensive starter fly fishing kit - consisting of a 5/6 weight pole and reel, tapered leader and orange backing line - and a few flies (I bought a few more that…Continue

Thanks, I might be the unluckiest fisherman in Alaska so I do not have many to show off.  I only caught a couple other silvers that summer and they were already beginning to change color.

15 inch ~3lb Trout. Taken with a wet fly (wooly bugger) from a place I've forgotten. ;) Fun fight. Tasty fish. Broiled the filets with a tuscan garlic/rosemary/sage vinaigrette.

Best fish of the day, 10 inch Largemouth Bass, in a tiny pond. Too small to keep, but fun to catch. I'll try to get him again next year.

Had fun today. Took the boy with me to the river and fished for an hour or so in the morning, downriver from the junction between the canal and river. Lots of guys fishing at the junction itself, and i wanted a quieter spot.

Only caught a few small bluegill (threw em back in), but it was fun.

Went to the pond by us in the late afternoon to see what was going on there. All of us aiming for sunfish and bass came up empty (aside from minnows), but the guys going after catfish were having a great day. Might have to go back and give that a shot.

How Bad Do You Go to Achieve Good for Yourself?

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that to be a nice person, with a sense of honor, and to show courtesy, good manners, and self-restraint are desirable, preferable behaviors, and this kind of approach should generally be adopted and practiced in everyday life. In most matters, or at least for others' peoples perceptions of you, the guiding principle should be to do what you feel is right, fair, and just, and to behave in a polite, friendly, and respectful manner. Now, here is the…See More
