Good afternoon folks,

Just saying hello and introducing myself to the group.  I am 25 and live in Pennsylvania with my wife.  We are expecting our first son in April and I am really looking forward to having a little boy around the house.  Sure, I have some fears and trepidation, but at the same time I am beginning to compile things on how to be a great and involved father.

I look forward to chatting with you guys here.

Oh yes good times. Make sure he does his homework, only one hour of vid games a day, and show him the stuff you like to do (get him involved both your stuff and your wife's stuff). You'll be fine untell he hits 9 or 10 years old then comes the problems.

Hey John,

I just wanted to pop in and let you know that having my daughter in my life (3 years in Feb) has been the greatest time of my life.  It's awesome and rewarding like nobody could possibly explain to you.  Just one of those things you have to experience for yourself.

Two suggestions for you:  Get to know your Disney princesses... trust me!  And overcome any insecurities you might have about wearing a pink hat and sipping imaginary tea with stuffed animals.  I don't wear pink myself, but I sported that pink diaperbag and those pink blankets with pride.

Of course your life is going to change.  Life always changes.  Even without the kid coming, your life today isn't what it was even a year ago, is it?

My one friend always warned me to NOT have kids.  He always spoke about how much trouble they were.  The difference between he and I are that his kids were accidents and mine came with intent.

Enjoy!  And don't forget those Disney movies!

Anthony,

I'm glad to meet you, Brother.  Exciting times, waiting for that kid to be born.  My wife and I have a soon-to-be 3yo daughter and a son on the way.  He should get here around Feb 7th.  I'm stoked at the idea of becoming a father again and I really can't wait to have a boy.

What kinds of things are you compiling to learn how to be a great and involved father?  Just curious.  I read Better Fathers, Stronger Sons and I really recommend that book.

Hope to chat with you soon.

"Thanks for the post and the examples, Nick. You were right in pointing out that it's no use comparing one's self to others. And I like your father's saying. "
