How to Help Spread the Word of Manliness

Hello gents. As many of you know, The Art of Manliness has no advertising budget whatsoever. The success of the site has been because of loyal readers and community members like spreading the word.

If you've found the articles or this community helpful, then please consider joining this group and helping spread the word. We would really appreciate it.

Below are a few ways you can help us out and none of them take more than 2 minutes:

Invite your friends to join the community.
Become a fan of Art of Manliness of Facebook
Print off this flyerand hang it up at school, church, or your favorite coffee shop.
Share Art of Manliness articles on Facebook.
Link Art of Manliness on your blog
Email articles to people you know. There's an email button at the bottom of every post.

Every now and then, I'll post some things we could use help on. They'll take just a minute, but that minute will go along way in helping the site to improve.

Thanks again for all your help and support!

Well we have so many images in our posts that we had to change to a much more expensive hosting plan. So I thought I'd put up the button if anyone cared to donate to help cover those costs. It's been up for a few weeks and we've gotten $5, so I'm not expecting much-but I figured it can't hurt to have it on there.

I noticed you are taking donations. What changed?

Rob-

Those are good ideas. I don't plan on taking donations. We make enough money on the site to keep it free.

I think the idea about a membership drive is really cool!

I've been trying to do my part. I've had two friends that I know of, so far, that have joined.

Hi Brett, here is one idea or two.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, I might make some members mad, but I hope not, how about monthly donations to AoM? I for one, would be willing to donate to help keep AoM alive.

The other idea is to do something like a new member drive, where the highest member getter could get some kind of prize or recognition.

Anyway, just a few ideas.

Hi Brett, I think that it is a great idea to spread the word about AoM. Several things that I worry about.

1. I have tried Facebook, grew tired of it after awhile, felt it was most people wanting to have fun. It was not a serious place. and I could not just talk about something personal. There is nothing wrong with Facebook, it's not for me, and I feel AoM and Facebook are worlds apart.

2. I tried twitter, twice. I felt that everyone should not know what I am doing every minute of the day. Again, I felt that it was (sorry no offense to those that twitter) just people having fun and playing around. I am not interested in knowing someone is standing in line for a movie.

3. I feel that AoM is a place where those that are here, are serious about what they want to get from AoM. For me it feels like a Manly Sanctuary, I feel free to discuss my problems. I trust the men here, I know that they are not going to get on Twitter and say, "hey, this guy named Rob, he is sleeping with his secretary". I want to invite others that are serious about developing their manhood.

So, I am sorry I don't have any suggestions to increase membership. But I hope that we can increase the community with serious men who want to improve, and dedicate themselves to become better men. But how we do that is just as important as why we do that.

When I first found AoM, I was totally taken back. I felt finally, I have a place where I could meet men, discuss problems, ideas, and share with each other to become better me.

This place is special, I hope that others feel the same, but at the same time I want to help Brett. I will try to come up with some ideas that might help.

And thank you Brett for making a community that I can feel myself growing as a man.

@ Johnny- Thanks man! I understand completely why someone would want to avoid different social network sites. I have some ideas and for people to help spread the word off if they want. I'll be posting them soon!

@ Nik-Great insights. I definitely agree that there are lots of men who would find the whole concept of AoM unmanly. To each their own, but I think they're missing out. ;) I also agree with you that a lot of men when they read the site are sort of confused by it. "Is it supposed to be serious? Is this a joke?" They can't imagine that you can have some fun while learning how to be a better man.

@ Zach- Thanks for your help man! I really appreciate it!

@ Chris- Thank you sir!

@thehuhman

It is sad, but I think it is no real surprise that the desire to truly better oneself is rather rare. Just think about how different public discourse would be if even 25% of the population was committed to holistic self-improvement. Democracy would be an astounding force rather than so frequently mired in blind argument rooted in unwaivering ideological difference.

Also, Zach's quoting Proverbs led me to a realization that I would probably have a larger pool of men willing to engage with this site if I were part of a religious community. I'm sure the percentage of people truly interested in self-improvement is small enough in the world, but my instinct tells me that the same measure among the areligious is likely even smaller.
