Whether its a log cabin in the montains surrounded by acres and acres of your land, or a penthouse in the biggest skyscraper in the world, we want to hear about it.

It seems as though I come up with a new design for a dream house just about every week. What I can never decide though is if I would prefer being in a small to mid-sized community or isolated a…Continue

Comment by David Arbogast on April 12, 2013 at 7:39am Wow, Hennie! That is really great. You are so fortunate to be able to live in the country in such a great house. There are similar hidden treasures here in the States. Unfortunately, so many of us can't swing the logistics to make the move. I wish you all the best in your dream house.
Comment by Hennie on April 11, 2013 at 4:00pm All I need is a Timber frame on a lake with 20 of my own acres and I will take care of the rest.
Comment by David Arbogast on August 17, 2012 at 1:40pm Actually, none of the above. I got an undergraduate degree in architecture and, in the process, discovered how boring Modern architecture is and how interesting historic architecture is. I then got a graduate degree in historic preservation. As a result, I do the professional investigation and coordination of the work.
Comment by Clint Connolly on August 15, 2012 at 2:35pm Interesting. Historic preservation - how did you get involved in it? Are you more contractor, craftsman, historian, or civil engineer?
Comment by David Arbogast on August 15, 2012 at 1:36pm No, I don't work in real estate. I am an architectural conservator and my work is to restore and preserve historic buildings. I have had all kinds of great projects.
That house really looks great and would be a steal here at $195k.

Comment by David Arbogast on August 15, 2012 at 12:48pm There are some great bargains in small towns. Missouri has some really nice houses at really low prices. The problem is that you have to be independently wealthy to afford to live in these towns, plus everyone in town knows you, which is not always a good thing.
I have helped at least two of my clients create their dream houses. One is a small, English-style cottage in a wonderful jungle of a yard in the middle of town and the other is a grand antebellum mansion overlooking the Mississippi River. They could hardly be more different from each other, but I love them both.
Comment by Clint Connolly on August 15, 2012 at 11:56am I used to want a very elaborate home. But now a days I dream of a tiny place in the mountains of Tennessee. Though recently on vacation, I saw a remodeled 120 year old plantation house for sale in the middle of a sleepy southern city for less than my modest house up north. I'd like to have a place like that for a few years.
