For me and my wife living in a rural area with lots of distance between us and the nieghbors is the only way to live.
It's not for everyone, though. If you are the type that only wants to walk in your house and plop down in front of the TV, the regular need of upkeep on a rural homestead is too much to deal with for many people.

I'd love to have some acreage myself, but I do what I can on my property (in a subdivision). I have four hens for eggs, and a few beehives that allow me to sell some honey on the side. Next year my plans is to setup a small garden.

Hello; we have a 700-acre wheat and alfalfa farm.  We also run cattle on the wheat in the winter.  If there are any other dedicated farmers or ranchers, there is a group called Farmers and Ranchers where we can talk specifically about production.

Where I had been living was in the country and I loved it. We(me and my parents) moved to the city for work and I hate it. I have plans to get an acerage when I am done college. It is what keeps me happy in the damn city.

I have read Wendell Berry's works since I was quite young, considering the information they have. I'm sorry, city life and city dwellers: the infection of the countryside has set in too deep. It's too late for me -- go on without me! I'll be over here -- FARMING.

That reminds me of the guy who used to manage the campground near my Dad's place. People always asked him if he got bored living out in the woods all the time. They'd always say " You know in the city we have movie theaters and you can do this or that." His response was always "Yep, well out here I can pee wherever I want without getting arrested."

Went to my country house yesterday. Pee in the grass sat on my deck in my birthday suit and boxers inhaled nature and felt real good!

I'd love to own acreage here in Wyoming, similar to the description by Mr Stanislav in the comment below

I will move to the country some day. I want my neighbors to look like ants when I look out my window. If I hear the neighbors car its because they are driving down my driveway. I want pee outside without worrying about the cops showing up. Turn off the lights and its pitch black. My dog (future dog) never had a leash, never had a fence. Some day I'll get there.
