City of Brotherly Love

This is a group for those seeking to improve themselves as men in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Members are encouraged to talk about anything dealing with the city; Best Barbershop, Hat Stores, Best Tailors, etc, and of course cheessteaks!

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Members: 22

The city of Philadelphia, as laid out by William Penn, comprised only that portion of the present city situated between South and Vine Streets and Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. Ever since it's founding the city of Philadelphia has been the site of manly men exchanging ideas freely, everything from politics, to the best wig maker, the best tailor, and religion and true freedom under demorcracy. All were discussed in the markets on High (Market) St., on the docks in Southwark, or in Carpenters Hall (Independence Hall). And in that tradition may this group carry on discussing the local issues that affect our lives as men in and around the city today.

Anything that has to do with the city is fair game; sports teams, favorite barber, shirt maker, hat store, political candidate, cheesesteak, soft pretzel, best and most honest mechanic, art expo, etc. All are open for discussion. And this group is not just for residents of the city or the surrounding area but it's also a guide for any of our fellow AoM brothers, (and sisters,) who might be visiting the city and want to know a few places to go or find something to do. Maybe even meet up.

And any group member is encouraged to help and give any suggestions they might have on how to improve this group.

A lot of my friends, especially those from down south, don't like the city. They say everyone is rude and brash, that we are always in a hurry. That the city is dirty and that our sports teams are…Continue

I'd be up for a meetup.

Hey Brad. I'm not sure how many Philly-area guys are still around. Might be just us for all I know. Lets see if anyone else chimes in.

I really don't have any time to hang out until after June 4.

Anybody still following this group? Any interest in a meet-up?

Since I haven't gotten any confirmations from anyone here about lunch tomorrow, I'm gonna call it off and try again in the fall.

Are any of you guys still interested in meeting for lunch on August 15? Let me know. Feel free to friend/PM me.

I am about 40 minutes from downtown Philly. I could only make the August 15th. Would really enjoy meeting you guys. Rich

It looks like Center City is going to work best geographically. I'll suggest lunch on any of the following dates:

Saturday, June 13 @ 1 p.m.

Saturday, July 25 @ noon

Saturday, August 15 @ noon

There is a moderately priced Irish pub called Fado in the center of town with plenty of parking within less than a block (not free) at 1500 Locust St., and both indoor and outdoor seating: http://www.fadoirishpub.com/philadelphia/

Let me know what you guys think.

"Easy to get to" pretty much rules out Center City due to traffic and parking. Where are you located, David?

I'm a little further away-- Princeton area-- but would consider coming into Philly for a meet-up.

Sure. I'd be up for coffee or lunch sometime. I've met with a couple of local AoM members over the years. I live at the far northern edge of Bucks County, and travel to Philly often.

Todd McFarland replied to Christopher Everet's discussion How do you handle just being friends with your crush?
"The answer is simple. If you haven't already, make your feelings for her clear.  You don't want to walk away without knowing for sure that you are in the friend zone. If she puts you in the friend zone, forget about her and move on.…"

Todd McFarland replied to George Corbul's discussion How does one become a 'real' man exactly?
"Agreed that women's ideas vary widely, which means there are women for who like whatever type of man you want to be.   Don't let any woman define what a real man is for you.  That's ass-backwards."

Jesse Dean replied to Jesse Dean's discussion What Would You Do?
"What? It was light hearted. I don't think I can learn how to read people's minds and tell if their dad is the coach of the team. But thank you. Maybe they aren't that helpful."
