Regardless of the specifics, we can all agree on one thing. Jesus Christ was the perfect Man who died and rose again for us such that we could have fellowship with Him

Thank you for the links, they just may work. I will need to do a little more research but I will let you know. Interesting you attended High School in Arkansas, is that where your were from? I was raised in Little Rock but currently live in the Dallas Fort Worth Area.

J. Hughes,

My early spiritual life as a child to adulthood was Roman Catholicism so I understand your desire to purchase a Bible for your nephew that is consistent with his catechism training. One thought would be to purchase a Catholic edition of the Revised Standard Version and also a Bible study guide as a companion to the Bible.

The first link is to a study guide which, by the way, was written by Jerome Kodell, OSB who is the abbot of Subiaco Abbey in Arkansas where I attended high school. He is a good scholar.

The second link is to the Catholic edition of the RSV.

In my own library I have a New Jerusalem Bible which has copious notes and is a good study Bible. The only drawback is that the NJB is large to accommodate the extensive notes. But, that may not matter.

Let me know what you decide. It interest me. And, thank you for your kind remarks regarding my AoM comments. Perhaps, we should friend each other. I, too, have enjoyed your insights on AoM.

Yes I agree the goal is to be more like Christ in all we do and to continually seek him and the Father.

There are some differences in the canon between the Protestant and the Catholic faiths, there are a few additional books included in the Catholic Bible that are not included bible traditionally used by Baptists. I am looking to provide a bible that he can use in his Church and at home that aligns with his Catholic upbringing. I use a NIV - Life Application Bible because the additional commentary provides me some additional insights I may not have come up with on my own. I am looking for that same application for him within the NAB-RE version of the Bible - so far I have not been able to locate it browsing on the internet, looks like I will need to go to his Church and ask some questions.

Thank you for the help, I often read your posts and enjoy your insights on the comments being made.

J., Hughes,

I wouldn't hesitate to give an English Standard Version with study helps to someone in the Catholic Church. I've done that often for retirement gifts and the like. It has always been appreciated. For my own use the ESV is one I like as well as the New Testament translation and commentaries by N. T. Wright. The commentary has such a wonderful pastoral approach. As one man at our men's group commented as we were carefully going through the Gospel of Luke..."I'm beginning to like this MAN...meaning Jesus. That's what we aim for, isn't it. That we find our refuge in Him no matter the translation.

Davis -

Thank you for the link, I browsed through the available titles and found a NAB Bible that looks good but I don't seem to find the same kind of Bibles I use, I read the NIV - Life Application Bible, and at home for cross reference I use the HCSB Study Bible and the HCSB Life Essentials Bible among other resources. I found a few references on the Web that the Catholic Church did not "approve" if I can use that term a Life Application bible that was available a few years ago so the publisher stopped publishing it.  - Again thank you for your response.

I have a mid teen nephew that will be completing Catechism soon and is in need of his own Bible. I would like to get one for him. I am looking for the equivalent to the NIV Life Application Bible but have some trouble locating one that includes the  Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical. Any suggestions on a good bible for a young man of Catholic Faith.

Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here! He is risen from the dead! For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us celebrate the feast!  Blessed Easter!!

Coed friendships while in a relationship

So a previous post of mine brought up an interesting debate.  Is it okay to hang out with people of the opposite gender while you are in a relationship?  What are the limits to this?  Is it okay in a group setting but not one-on-one?  Is it okay in public but not private?  Does it matter if you know this other person?  I can't possibly come up with all the possible scenarios on here so feel free to come up with different ones. The final topic of discussion for this is what would you do if you…See More
