Hey Everyone. I wanted to start a discussion on this topic.
As a Christian man, to lust is to commit adultery, and it seems to be getting harder and harder to avoid tempting ads just about everywhere we go.
Similarly, it seems that the cellphone providers are trying to push everyone to smartphones, and we all know that that means this temptation is with us in our pockets wherever we go.
I have not yet updated to a smartphone for this very reason, but having graduated from college, and looking for a job makes me feel like I need to have email with me wherever I go.
I was wondering how other guys have handled this issue, and what they recommend. To be honest, I'm at the point where I can't be trusted to surf safely if I'm left in a room alone. Some days, the temptation is minimal, other days, it's like no matter what I do, the devil is there ready to pounce. So what do people think?

Permalink Reply by Rebekah on August 20, 2012 at 7:49pm I've been a lawyer for more than 3 years, and I don't have a smartphone or internet access at home. If my employers want me to have it, they'll have to pay for it. My co-workers know in general, but if I know they're going to have a busy weekend, I remind them in a sign-off e-mail late Friday.
So don't let the work issues be a hang-up.

Permalink Reply by JonEdanger on August 20, 2012 at 8:09pm Seriously? You don't want to get a smartphone because you can't trust yourself to not surf porn on it? You have got to be kidding! How will you handle having a job? Will you be spanking it at your desk?
Permalink Reply by Beowulf87 on August 20, 2012 at 8:34pm He's trying to do the right thing, knowing the weakness all men have. This is a bad thing, why? I laud him for it.
Robert, as an accused Luddite who doesn't have hardly any technology I can't help with the phone issue, but some books I loved:

Hope this helps. If not, we could even talk some more if you like (PM?), not that I know how to cure problems, I just understand where you're coming from, bro.

Permalink Reply by Shane on August 20, 2012 at 8:57pm It's not bad. It's just self centered and whiny. Which is annoying. But, not bad. Good on him for trying to do the right thing. I'll never take him seriously though.
Permalink Reply by Beowulf87 on August 21, 2012 at 5:26pm I'm sorry, I definitely respect differences of opinion, but I just don't see it as whiny or self-centered.
Permalink Reply by Shane on August 21, 2012 at 6:23pm He's whining. He lacks personal accountability on the issue. What are you missing?
Permalink Reply by RooThawg on August 21, 2012 at 6:43pm This sounds like great personal accountability. Why do say he's self-centered and whiny?
