I'm not a Catholic, but I hear many Christians say Catholics (most, not all, depending on their specific beliefs) are not really Christian, and that they go to hell. I really don't have a big opinion on the matter though.

Any opinions on this?

Actually, that's only 2 in one year. We're doing better.

I'll get to reading, thanks for the link. :)

Yes, we Catholics most definitely are Christians. If you visit the discussion to which Rebekah has kindly provided a link (thanks, Rebekah!), you will see detailed answers and conversation about some of the most common misconceptions about the Roman Catholic Church and its members.

As a Roman Catholic, I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord, my Soverign, and my Savior. Thus, we Catholics are definitely Christians.

I hadn't heard this before. I imagine the kind of person who says that every single Catholic is going straight to Hell is the kind of person who also says that quite a lot of other people are going to Hell too and you really just have to avoid making eye contact with them on the bus.

I haven't heard that from "many Christians".  A few, maybe.

I believe this is the meaning of "judge not lest ye be judged".  We are called to judge actions, doctrine, etc.  We are not called to judge Salvation.  I don't decide who is, and is not, a Christian.  I don't know who's going to hell ... and it isn't my decision to make.

I can argue about doctrine, disagree with beliefs, and debate actions.  I can recognize sin, false doctrine, etc.  I believe there are certain essential beliefs of the Christian faith -- and that belief in them can contribute to your Salvation.  Catholics seem to hit most, if not all, of them.

But, I won't argue about someone else's Salvation.  It ain't my call.  I believe Catholics are wrong about some things.  People can be wrong and still be Christian.  I'm sure we're all wrong about something.  That's why its called "Grace".

Amen, Jack!

I would venture to say that head-count wise, there are more Christians in the RCC than any other denomination

Easily, the Catholic church is something like a billion strong.

Y'all going to count Chinese Atheists?

"Y'all going to count Chinese Atheists"?

Huh?  What do they have to do with religion other than they don't believe in God?  If you're Catholic and by that I mean you pray, go to church etc. you believe in God so therefore you're not atheist.

And the Fool Speaks

Hello.I've been checking out this site for a few weeks now (caught my attention with an article about Sir Richard Francis Burton, one of my heroes). It's a pretty cool site. Sadly a lot of stuff I've seen on here is fast eroding from out society. I've always been a bit old fashioned so I think I agree with a lot of the articles on here.I have been enjoying the articles about finding your vocation. Which is why I suppose I decided to write this little introduction (though I honestly I don't see…See More
