I'd love to know what the AoM community recommends for graphic novel reads? Reply back with your picks. After we get a good collection together, maybe we could have a vote for a top 10 list of must read graphic novels?

Here are a few of my recommendations:

Maus I&II -By Art Spiegelman

Bone - By Jeff Smith

The Watchmen - By Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons

May I recommend
"The Rocketeer" - Dave Stevens

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Alan Moore

Dan Dare - Garth Ennis

The Flaming Carrot - Bob Burden
Ones I've actually read (and can recommend):

Batman: Year One

Watchmen

The Killing Joke

V for Vendetta

Ones I want to read:

The Dark Knight Returns

The Dark Knight Strikes Again

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (All volumes)

The Rocketeer (I love the movie :D )

From Hell

Lost Girls

Among many, many others....
I would agree with The Watchmen. Anything from Star Wars or Marvel works for me too.
All of the works of Alan Moore: esp. Watchmen, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta
The Sandman Series by Neil Gaiman
(up there with Lord of the Rings in sheer perfect)

The Dark Knight Returns

Concrete by Paul Chadwick
(strangely underrated)

Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley
(upcoming film directed by Edgar Wright of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz awesomeness)

Kingdom Come

Dawn: Lucifer's Halo by Joseph Michael Linsner

Battle Angel Alita
(being remade I hear)

Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow
(p. s. The Matrix blatantly rips off this and the movie made from it)

Y the Last Man
(jury is still out on the ending I feel)

100 Bullets

Everything by Jeff Brown: i. e. Unlikely, Clumsy, Bighead

Mai the Psychic Girl illustrated by the great Ryoichi Ikegami
(my first manga so I have to give a shout out)

the works of Katsura Masakazu I"s, Video Girl Ai, Shadowlady
(romantic, love triangley but real and really funny)

there's more but who's got the time?
Creature Tech by Doug TenNapel. Many book from a manly man.
Earthboy Jacobus by Doug TenNapel, haven't finished it yet, but so far it's very manly.
I loved Creature Tech and will have to find the other. I have loved Doug Ten Napel's work on everything esp. Five iron Frenzy covers and Earthworm Jim.

Starman - James Robinson. It's a beautiful and sumptuous story about someone becoming a hero, then giving it up. Starman made me cry on occasion.
100 Bullets - The last volume of this comes out in June. I can't wait to read the whole thing from beginning to end (100 issues/13 collections).

Fables - Great reimagining of fairy tale characters as if they actually existed and are in hiding in the real world. Amazing, imaginative stuff.

Sandman - Neil Gaiman's masterpiece.
Care for two late additions?

The Walking Dead - a zombie book on the surface, but really about being human in a crazy world. The protagonist is someone who exemplifies many of the principles promoted here at AOM. There's a new omnibus out which costs about $60, but it's worth every penny.

The Goon - probably the opposite of Walking Dead, although it also contiains zombies. It's alternatively and simultaneously violent, funny, sentimental, goofy, and brilliant. Eric Powell's art and writing are both top-notch.
My favourite graphic novel of all time "From Inside" by John Bergin. Holy crap! I just googled it and they've animated it now
I just finished Bone. It was a nice story very "open and shut". The end was kind of a bummer but I guess I wouldn't have it ended any other way. It looked like a lot of love and thought went into it.
I agree, Michael. It's tough to pack all that into a two hour movie, however.
