The Barber

So who goes to the barber to get their head shaved? I LOVE getting a hot towel head and face shave. I feel so refreshed after.

First Timer! Any suggestions...

Well, I have decided to shave my head.  My wild hairline and thin patch in the front has become unmanageable!  Shaving my head has been something I have wanted to do for a while now.  I buzzed it…Continue

I know what you mean Earl. When I started shaving my head 16+ years ago there weren't that many guys with shaved or even buzzed heads, esp. white guys. Now it's fairly common. It's a bitch when one looses their uniqueness, but dammit we're still special. :-)

I went to the beach this weekend, and a lot of men, especially over the age of 40, had buzzed or shaved heads.  It would be boring if everyone looked like this, but I'm comfortable with the number of guys who are shaving it all off.  I don't think I'd be the only person to shave my head, but it seems to be pretty popular, especially in the summer.

I use the Headblade myself, altho I prefer the older model.  The new one is a bit high-tech and complicated to use, especially when changing the blade.  It does give a close, comfortable shave, tho.  Welcome, Jason.  You posted a photo in a different group, and your bald head looks really good!

The Headblade does have a learning curve and I prefer it for my top and against the grain shaving in the back. I have one of the originals that don't have the wheels on it. Seems to do better than the ones with them. It doesn't do a great job on the sides though. Never could get it to shave well against the grain there.

I have a Headblade.  It does an okay job.  It doesn't give me as close a shave as I want against the grain.  I was lifting the wheels off my head to get the blades at the angle I needed.  I switched to a Gilette Fusion Proglide with Flexball.  That works better for me.  But I do like their Head Slick shaving cream.

I've been shaving for about 20 years now. My hair started thinning in my late teens. My wife gives me a hard time if I go too many days without shaving. The longer my hair grows the more balding I look. I'd much more prefer to be bald than balding.

Okay, an informal poll.  How many of you guys are totally bald--either buzzed down to the scalp or shaved completely clean.  How many of you are balding.  If you are balding, do you want to try to grow your hair back, or are you content to leave it as is, do you plan to shave it all off at some point.  I'll start.  Since September 26 of last year, I have been shaved clean.

I started receding in my teens.  I was freaked.   Even wore a rug for a time.  Now I just get what little is left buzzed off.  I too like a hot towel beard shave.  Feels like a facial.

Just shaved my head 2 weeks ago.  Feels better and I think I look younger.  My hair was thinning and the line kept going further back.  Always swore if I was going to go bald I was not going to the get the grandpa look.  Both of them were bald up top with hair on the sides.  Unfortunately it still grows in those areas and have to shave it everyday...or every other day.   Hope to learn from you pros.

plucking and waxing, as i understand, over time damages the follicle so eventually no more hair.  and there are laser treatments... though i wonder if those technicians will avoid the scalp area.
