A great cigar? Yes. An amazing resource for them? Yes. It's called Canada for everyone who lives in the states and is near the border. Whenever I take a trip up there, seeing as how my town has a ferry direct to Victoria, I just go to one of the smoke shops and ask for a Cuban, and I always ask for what they would recommend. But whatever you do, don't even think of trying to bring one of those puppies back.
Here's a story for you, some of you might laugh, some of you might say that one shouldn't even laugh about this sort of thing. But last year I was in Victoria and had picked up a Cuban cigar, and so there I am about to board the ferry when I remember that it's still in my pocket. Naturally, I'm not about to do anything illegal, so I tell the border guy that I've got a cigar. A Cuban no less. So I'm taken into a back room without further ado and am sat down for a little chat about how it's illegal to try to bring a Cuban cigar into the states and all that serious legal whatnot. I tell them that it was never my intention to attempt to smuggle anything and that I'd simply forgotten that it was in my pocket (Now a smarter man would've smoked his cigar after leaving the smoke shop, but I'd been enjoying Canada's bitters! And was maybe, perhaps, by some crazy random happenstance, a wee bit drunk). So I'm told: "You can either smoke it, or we'll have to take it and destroy it."
"AHAHAHAHAHA!!! Well of course I'm going to smoke it!" I say. Well one of the guards there burst out laughing (seeing as how I had obviously enjoyed the libations too much) before who seemed like the senior official gave that poor guy a glare. So here I am, ten minutes before the ferry leaves, and I smoke an entire (say about 6 inch?) cigar with some other people who'd forgotten that they'd had a cigar in their pocket and had to smoke it or face its inevitable destruction. I've never smoked a cigar that quickly before, in fact I don't know anyone else who's smoked like that before, but I've got to say... It was worth it. The next time you're traveling abroad and have money for cigars, get yourself that Cuban. Just smoke it BEFORE you get to the border. You don't want to deal with the guys I had to deal with!
