Welcome to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Seems like everyone could use a hug this week. Good thing evolution gave the blue-ringed octopus all those arms.  (Disclaimer: The blue-ringed octopus is venomous. Please do not actually attempt to hug one.)

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is all about animals—both wild and domesticated—and the complicated relationship we have with them.

As listed above, posts can consist of anything related to animals: science, evolution, behavior, food production, humane living, or family pets.

Whether you work with animals or if you’re just a nature lover, this group will hopefully have something for you. I look forward to your contributions.

Photo Captures Penguin Swimming Into 'Jaws of Death'

A young penguin swam into the "jaws of death" of a leopard seal in Port Lockroy, on the Antarctic Peninsula, in this photo by underwater photographer Amos Nachoun.

The photos were taken in 2009 while Nachoun attempted to capture a series documenting how frigid water leopard seals hunt.

Young penguins are at higher risk of predators because they are not yet aware of the dangers, according to information provided by the photographer.

I couldn't complain. I was in a coma.

Yeah, well, Shane, I didn't hear you complaining none.

Pride vs. Arrogance

Hey guys,Came to the AoM community a few months ago for some relationship advice and was very pleased with what feedback I received! Now I come to you with another query: Ive been reading a lot of the articles lately and they talk about being proud of yourself as a man.I like to think Ive accomplished a lot in my 21 years, and Im happy where I am. But I often wonder to myself: have I crossed the line from being proud to being arrogant?I want to know your opinions on the subject. Where is the…See More
