I am a Canadian but I follow American news for obvious reasons.
I could not help but notice the increase of school shootings being reported.
I am just curious what you men have to say about gun or weapons in general.
This is not to discuss so much the second amendment as it is to have you say what you think of arms.
I myself detest guns. I hate how some random street punk can kill an upright and great man at the pull of a trigger. It simply upsets me.
Before when one wished to kill someone else, poison and such may have been used, but combat was primarily up close and personal with melee based weapons.
I have a passion for melee weapons and the arts that accompanies them. Centuries have been spent in order to perfect various forms of martial arts. The human body, the movements, the elegance, the power and the speed. They're all so beautiful to me. That is why guns upset me, because a random punk can send a practitioner of one of these arts with a finger movement.
I realize that a similar argument would be that a simple punk can kill a man with a knife.
I also realize that I am simplifying the use of a gun, and I am making it sound easy to use, but in some ways it is. If you handle a gun with skill, that's something, but a street punk can use it by aiming in a general direction and pulling the trigger a few times.
I would like to hear everyone else's input. This is just my opinion. If you wish to argue against me, I'll be happy to read it. Make sure to post your own views.
Of course not....
I saw this on a t-shirt once... I had to go home and search what the second amendment was to get it.
I got a good chuckle.
I likes me guns' n' I likes me Knives. They is good for many things.
Prob is, the "street punks" can always find a way to obtain a weapon...ANY weapon, not just firearms...and in their zeal to "make it right" idiot legislators make snap judgements lacking common sense, putting more and more restrictions on obtaining/using/owning firearms, effectively removing them in a methodical fashion from lawful citizens, leaving them unarmed to defend themselves against said street punks...and when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
That's it in a nutshell...you/folks may hate guns, but they DO help to keep us safe. There's pro and con in everything...cars, knives, hammers...it is what it is...
Sadly, honour in combat today doesn't exist. What once took every muscle, ounce of energy, and grit in our bodies to kill a man now takes but a few muscles without breaking a sweat or even thinking. A gun, a firearm is tool, much like a hammer or a screwdriver. Both can kill, both can build. For the gun's case, peace is what it can build, ironically... Give a gun to righteous and virtuous man, he can do and preserve great things. Give it to a morally confused adolescent with depression, anxiety or anger problems -- tragedy.
I am Canadian as well and am pro-firearms, even though I am well aware of the destruction they can cause and it does sadden me. This planet is bursting with good and infested with evil. Guns are too plentiful to be used only by the former. Without good, what is evil and vice versa? I promote the use of firearms for the preservation of good and not hatred. Guns to me are an extreme security, not weapons of hatred. I could go on for pages upon pages but I will spare everyone of that :P
So much great stuff has been said already, but I'd also like to add this thought. Even people who grow up in countries where its citizens cannot carry guns, so have never had that freedom, should realize how this debate affects them as well.
If the thought of governments and criminals being the only armed people in the entire world doesn't scare you, you are incredibly ignorant of history. Tyranny can spread so much easier if the population isn't able to defend itself.
It can be argued the US has been a worldwide trend setter for personal freedoms. If we were to give up our right to arm ourselves, I don't believe it would be long before it would become a world wide trend. You know what they say about absolute power.
When seconds count the police are minutes away (and I don't trust the police anymore than any enforcer for any other protection racket).
Weapons are tools for both offence and defence, without weapons you are a lamb in a flock of lambs.
