I've recently stumbled into an opportunity to be a sales rep for a wholesale wine distributor.
Draw against commission, with bonuses at dollar marks, a pretty extensive hunting ground (basically all of coastal North Carolina north of the Wilmington area) that is demographically well suited for wines and like products, a travel expense allowance, I set my own hours. Cold calling on business all over eastern NC promoting the wines, beers and hardware that the company wholesales, and doing a lot of wine presentations at tasting events for the retailers.
I've a very strong history with business-to-business sales and have always done well with that industry, and I'm very comfortable with public speaking/presenting.
I've a very strong knowledge base in wine production to pivot off of, but my wine product knowledge is not nearly as strong as it probably should be for this job.
Has anyone here done this before? Is this really a viable way to make a decent living?
