I saw this discussion regarding President Obama's wristwatch and my first thought was...who wears a watch anymore?  With cellphones and other personal electronics being so ubiquitous it seems owning and wearing a watch are falling out of style.  I myself own a couple but haven't worn them in years.  Dead batters, bands that (ehem) are a big snug now, etc.  Just doesn't seem worth the effort although I do miss wearing them.

What about you?  Do you wear a watch?  Is it merely a time keeper or a part of your dress?  Different watches for different occasions?  Any fantastic heirlooms floating around?

Well "stylish" can mean many things.

Personally, for around $100, I would look at the Seiko 5 series. These are very solid automatic movements (no batteries, but no winding either - if you wear them). They are built well, and there is a lot of variety in the styles available.

For example - an Amazon search for Men's Seiko 5, priced 50-100 provides:

Casio G-shock for work - it's indestructible, not too chunky and has everything I need.

I don't have a dress watch nor the current means to buy one, but I'm interested in some day getting a quality, swiss-made timepiece.

Be aware that many (most) 'Swiss' movements are made by ETA (part of the Swatch group and there's nothing wrong with that as they are the largest producer of mechanical watch movements BUT they have different grades of movements: ie the cheaper and designer names won't have the highest quality of movement and the robustness and accuracy that comes with it.
The reason I mention this is that some people might have had a mechanical watch fail and then they think they're fragile or junk. It's not that mechanical watches fail its just that cheap mechanical watches may not last.
Good luck

I have worn a watch for so long now that its neither part of my dress or a mere time keeper, it is a part of ME. I feel very odd if I dont have the old Timex strapped on. Plus, Its easier just to glance down and check the time instead of having to dig the phone out of my pocket.
