What is your favorite book?
First off, I´d like to introduce myself as I am a new member to this community. My name is Leonardo, I am called Leonard or Leo by friends and family, doesnt matter to me. I am twenty years old and working to help my dad support our family.
I love reading books. Growing up, however, I was the type of kid that preferred to go outside and play or explore the neighborhood picking up a good book was he last thing on my mind. I had this mindframe up until my late high school years when I started getting a little curious as to why lots of people enjoyed reading. But it was not until this year that i made a new years resolution to read atleast fifty books throughout the year. I was not going to school in the spring and I didn´t have a job at the time so I had nothing better to do than to spend my days going to the library which, fortunately, are always near or at a park. So I would find a nice shady tree to go sit under and enjoy reading. I´m proud to let you all know I successfully accomplished my new years resolution within the first two months of the year! Anyways, I have been stuck in a rut these past few months with no books calling my attention. This year I read a book series that I accidentally came across and yet came to be my absolute favorite series of all time! It is called "The Walk" series. It consists of three books "The Walk", "Miles to go", and "The Road to Grace" by Richard Paul Evans.
What is your favorite book? I´m hoping you guys can help me out of this rut!

If you're a sports fan at all I highly recommend anything written by John Feinstein. Even if you're not a sports fan, his work is very entertaining as it focuses more on human interest stories than on the Xs and Os of sports. His golf, baseball and basketball books are particularly good. Some of my favorites are;

Well...I like to play sports even though the only one I truly know the rules to is baseball haha. I am kinda of new to reading and havent read many genres so I wouldn't rule those out. I´m not a hardcore fan or anything like that but I do enjoy watching Baseball every now and then. Thanks for your recommendations, Shawn. I will look them up and check them out if I can find them at my local library!

I loved reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet, and the sequel World Without End wasn't half bad either, both 500+ pages great way to spend a weekend. My one book I will never get rid of is The Unlikely Spy by Daniel Silva, it is a WWII espionage tale if that is your style

You know, I never realized just how many genre´s and sub-genre´s of books there are out there. I have yet to come across a mystery/spy type book and I´m assuming that is the type "The Unlikely Spy" is, right? It does sound intriguing. I have no clue what "Pillars of the Earth" is about but i´ll be sure to check it out as well! Thanks for your reply Anthony.

Oh and I guess I am not certain what style I prefer over any other but "The Walk" Series are somewhat of Inspirational/(...I want to say adventurous because the main character travels across the country, but im not sure adventurous is the right word...) type of books so I may lean towards that, if anything. But I have read a few fiction, paranormal, adventure, Survival type of books and I enjoyed many of those. Sports and Mystery will be a first for me. Oh and most recently I´ve been getting into Biographies or Autobiographies too!

Pillars is about a 12-13th century british architect and a cathedral and the people involved in building it and the town that forms around it. It is not as dull as it sounds.

The Three Musketteers (and the entire historical series of stories that come after The Three Musketteers by Alexandre Dumas - each of them a compelling read in their own right, but really enjoyable as you follow the charactors throughout their lives.) Excellent!!
The entire 'Dune' series of (6 books) by Frank Herbert. Science fiction at its very very finest! Mind expanding books!!! I'm amazed at his creativity. Fascinating!
'The Vampire Chronicals' by Anne Rice. Several books in the series - one builds on another - and lead into the 'Taltos' series and then into 'The Mayfair Witches.' Creative! Engrossing. So readable, you'll never be able to put them down.
The entire body of work of Susan Howatch. Started out with writing family sagas with plots based on historical basis - had a religious conversion late in life - and wrote about religion-themed fascinating charactors in 'The Starbridge Series' (5 books) revolving around a cathedral in England and The Church of England - and then 3 stand-alone novels after 'The Starbridge Series' - compellingly written and you will not be able to put them down.
Did I mention my wife HATES! it when I get my nose in a book!

Love the Vampire Chronicles, Menmoch is my favorite
With the movie opening this week, read Lee Child's Jack Reacher series and realize how horrible a choice Tom Cruise is and how bad ass Jack Reacher is.
For a fun, fun series in the SciFi/Fantasy I can't get enough of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.

I'm a Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan. There are too many great books out there to really claim one as a favorite. But at the top of my list would be:
Ender series (with "Enders Game" being the best... and if any book could possibly be claimed as a favorite, this would probably be the one.)
Dune series, and Children of Dune series.
Star Wars universe novels (there are, literally, hundreds of Star Wars books.)
The Sword of Truth series.
