What Does the Woman in Your Life Think of Your "Manning Up"?

For many of us, our association with AOM has coincided with an genuine, intentional effort to be better men, all around -- to properly exhibit true manliness as it relates to being men of faith, husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. The 30 DBM Challenge is the latest initiative, but I know that I have been consciously trying to better myself, with varying degrees of success, for awhile now.

Have the significant females in your lives noted a change in you and what do they think of your relatively new-found enthusiasm to buck the current culture and "man up?"

My wife hasn't said anything outwardly, but she's seen me on the site a few times, along with some of the newer actions I've tried to take and attitudes I've tried to adopt. I can tell that she appreciates it -- one of those "I don't know where it came from, but I like it" type of responses.

My wife (out of the corner of her eye) sees me on the site so much, at first, she accused me of being addicted to porn! I have since cleared THAT up. And I've showed her around the AoM site, and explained what it is all about. I made it a point to show her how the site is completely porn-free. She is much more receptive now, and has also since promised to not jump to conclusions... LOL.

My girlfriend recently questioned me on my involvement in the project, not in any negative way, just wanted to see what I had accomplished. I was happy to fill her in on my progress, she even said she had noticed a few of the things before I had ever told her about it.

I was checking in on Saturday and she asked if I had got something done, I asked how she knew about it and she said she got it in her email (she manned up). At first I felt a bit upset that she would put her nose into my business like that. I didn't want her keeping tabs on me, I want to do the challenges for myself.

I feel like kind of a jackass now, but can see why she was interested in the site. She loves me, she loves the fact that I want to be a better man and she even admitted to wishing that there were a site geared towards ladies that she could participate in such a manner that we do here (perhaps a task for your wife, Brett?).

This isn't really in answer to your question, but it is vaguely related from a gal's perspective.
I wish my husband and more men were involved on the site -- I share links to articles from it all the time. The funny thing is, when I show it to my girlfriends, they all love it! and are grateful it's around often commenting things like "Phew; finally" and "We really need something like this" and "I wish there were more real men out there".

When I first started reading, there was a post about the man hug. My wife and I laughed all the way though it. The post is located here. She thought it was funny for a while when I started buying fedoras, but she came around quickly. I already did a lot of the things I am doing now, so not too much changed.

Glad your wife was able to see the site in the proper perspective huhman. :)

Yea. Now she often times reads it with me, and takes a more active role. She tells people that the website has helped me a lot over the past several months. She is definitely seeing AoM for what it (really) is!

This all started with my wife telling me to "Man Up". Since then she has expressed appreciation for my efforts and there is harmony in the home.

At first she thought it was kind of silly, but now she's seen some of the results (particularly my shaving) she's come around.

My wife, I *suspect*, thinks this is a bit silly. (Maybe because of the threads she saw about what kind of body wash was manliest?) But she doesn't think *I'm* silly, so good enough.

My wife's response amused me more then anything. She said to me the first time I was seen reading this site "Don't you think you are manly Enough already"..After showing her the Grooming section I frequent the most she smiled and said "Take notes, I like a smooth face on my man"

Annie calls it my "ManSpace" page, but she seems really receptive of it. She definitely likes the book/movie lists.

I'm a city boy, software developer, bookworm. My wife grew up in Billings, Montana, catching chickens, riding horses, branding cattle. Where she comes from, the proper term is "Cowboy Up," but the gist is the same.

I've always had my own impression of manhood which focuses more on being a "nice guy" than on being a genuine, take charge, masculine leader of the family. I'm doing my best to step up now and take that position in my marriage and and young family.

I think the biggest change my wife's seen since I started participating on AoM is my intense interest in ditching my Norelco electric razor in favor of the traditional wet shave, which has led to frantic eBay searches for shaving stands and cheap safety razors. She's glad to see me working on my masculine side, though, even if it's only through osmosis. I can feel the testosterone seeping through the network cables, guys...

"Another boar? But I need a BADGER!""What the heck?!?"
