Permalink Reply by JonEdanger on October 28, 2012 at 1:36pm I'm not sure what real gentlemen wear. I typically wear khakis and a polo shirt after work (most of the year.) Winter I'll add a hoodie. Summer replace khakis with shorts.

Permalink Reply by Native Son on October 28, 2012 at 3:03pm To the OP. That show is set about 50 years ago, in Manhattan. Back in those "dark ages", people dressed with more formality than now. Folks also dressed according to their socio-economic status, and those white collar "masters of the advertising universe" did tend to wear suits and ties unless they were under the car or behind their lawn mower.

Permalink Reply by Dale K on October 28, 2012 at 4:12pm A modern day 'gentleman' would wear khakis and a polo shirt. But! two things to keep in mind.
1. If you're going to work on the car, mow the lawn, work the flower bed, etc. you have to change clothes. Wouldn't want to soil those khakis.
2. If you change clothes two and three times a day, that means double or triple the amount of clothes going into the laundry basket. If you're a bachelor, that's no big deal. If on the other hand... just be ready to the woman to get frustrated. LOL

For any kind of work it will be cargo shorts; the extra pockets come in handy.
Unless I am doing something really disgusting I don't change clothes; a little dirt does not scare me.
