Hey all,

Currently I wear a Timex watch. I've had it for a year and feel like getting something new. My question is, what brand of watch is a step up from Timex? Any suggestions? I'm not looking for a Rolex (yet) and I own an Omega which I only wear on special occasions. I was thinking about a Bulova or a Swiss Army.

I don't own any, but I really like Hamiltons, especially the field watches.  Or maybe a higher end Seiko diver (Monster, Tuna, ect).  I have a couple of Invicta automatics I wear on a regular basis and really like them.
Hamilton was good enough for Elvis Presley and recently Will Smith so hey.... I like Hamilton's for how tough and sharp looking they are. Very iconic American watch.
I have a couple of "Swiss Army"s (Victorinox & Wenger) in my small set of watches I wear in rotation, they're solid reliable watches and you can find things that are much more functional, casual, "field" style or "dressy" shiny and "complicated" to fit your mood. My go to watch is of the first sort, and has lasted me well for the last 15+ years with definite "character" wear patterns, a few battery & leather strap changes -- you could find something like it in either the "Infantry" or the "Cavalry" styles. My go to "dressy" one is a classic look, you could find it within the metal bracelet "Officer" styles. But a watch choice is very personal, I wouldn't want to give you much more direction than that.
The one thing I'm going to look out for on my next watch is a sapphire crystal. Whatever mine is made of scratches way too easily, shortening it's life substantially.
I'm a huge fan of Invicta watches (I have a lupa diver).  Something more functional for my outdoor activities are my Suunto watches (I am wearing the Core now, but my favorite is the Observer ST, I use the T3 for my training watch).  I also just bought me a Stuhrling Automatic that I really like, but I desperately need a winder for it.  And I can't forget my Tissot T-Touch, which is a much more dressy outdoorsy watch with the Barometer, compass, altimeter functions, like my Suuntos have...
I also have an Invicta 8926 (which I think is a fantastic watch), and a Casio G shock. I highly recommend the 8926 and a Zulu band
I've had two Bulovas.  They work fine.  The only problem is that the gold plate (I prefer gold to silver) eventually wears through after 4 or 5 years and you can see the base metal underneath.  I haven't found a suitable solution for this.
Fossil

+1

I had a Citizens.  My wife bought me a silver colored Fossil watch for our wedding.  Been wearing it ever since (since the Citizens watch didn't go with the wedding band).

I had a fossil, it was a good watch, until someone stole it at my gym :(

+1

I have been using the same fossil watch for daily wear for a little over 15 years now.  I have been terribly hard on it..,probably crossed the line to abuse more than a few times...and that watch just keeps ticking.

Skagen makes a good watch.  I've worn the same one every day for two years.  They're Danish, though, and as that's my heritage, I may be biased :)
