Hi all,

What type of a knot do you think looks better with a tie- half-Windsor knot or a double-Windsor knot?

From images I've seen on the wonderful land of Google, it seems like half-Windsor knots look more thin than double-Windsors. I've heard somewhere that it's classy to have a knot very thinly tied, which is why I've sided with half-Windsor in the past. What do you guys think?

Regards,

-Steve

Half Windsor is thinner than the Double. The Double is more symmetrical than the the Half, but works best for a collar that is wide spread. The wider the gap, the larger the knot can be.

It depends.  I normally use the standard four-in-hand, unless I want a more symmetrical look, in which case I stick to the half-Windsor.  Perhaps a very spread collar would call for a wider knot, but there is no single right answer, despite what you heard somewhere.  Match the knot to the outfit (the most salient points usually being the material and structure of the tie and the width of the collar).

The total climb will take 7 hours. The summit should have a little snow on it, and will be windy.…See More
