Now I know this site is heavily US-centric but is there anyone out there looking forward to the upcoming European Championships?

As a British ex-pat I shall be glued to the tv for 2 weeks- even though we are crap and dont stand a chance.

Even better that every game is live on ESPN!  Things have certainly changed in the 10 or so years I'e lived here.

Anyway- didnt see any topics on this so I thought I'd start one

En-Ger-Lannnnnndddd!!!! ROAR!!!!

Yeah, agreed. Nobody can trust him with their wives, girlfriends, daughters, mothers, grannies etc either

Strange that in England there is a dearth of the usual interest in this tournament. Perhaps, we have finally given up hope that the national team can ever win anything.

Interesting 1st day-  opening game with 2 sending offs and both teams should have won/threw the the game away.

Russia in the second game is looking pretty strong- already 2-0 up after 30 minutes

The ref in the Greece game was ridiculous. That guy was never a red card sort.

Still, I had to feel sorry for the commentators, Poland AND Greece?

I heard on the radio these games are good timing; keeps you all distracted so you're not lining up at your banks withdrawing money.
Buys a little more time for your governments to do something while yet another country heads for default (Spain).
Srsly, some scary stuff going on there.

Well what are your thought after the first round of games?

Group D is still up in the air; I didn't expect Ukraine to be leading the group at this point.

I also have a hunch about Germany making their way to the final and have a good chance winning. My predictions are more like a kiss of death than anything else.

Germany look strong (always do)  but more worryingly is that fact that they always start these things very slowly and grow as it goes on...  well they had a slow start and then walked over the dutch-  might be unstoppable by the time the semi's come around!

Then we have the dutch-  the showing at the last world cup seems to be blip and our trusted entertainers of these tournaments are back with vengence.

Just when they looked like being a decent side again-  they come together and give us those 2 performances!!!  Got to love the Oranje!!!

Portugal seem to be a bit erratic, might work in their favor?

England seem to be what we thought= limited by talent etc but at least for the first time in living memory the media's hype of us is non- existant.

Which even though the football might be crap, at least we dont have all the stupid ego stuff we usually have to suffer through.

Plus the best thing about the whole thing for me was that the terrible England band was banned from our first game.  That was the best thing for England supporters that has ever happened!!!

Me so sad....

I think on Sunday most everyone will be cheering for Netherlands or at least against Portugal (Ronaldo).

I like how both groups A and B are still open going into the final matches. It will make for some nice games next week as nobody is safe yet.

The Irish are trying out an American style defensive strategy and that never leads to anything good.

Well it has led to them being dumped out of the tournament after only 2 games. Would have been nice to have seen them go through. England needs to do someghing with its defence. But still, good result last night, eh?

Good bourbon on a budget

My friends and fellow gentleman, i find my supply of liquid levity growing disturbingly low. Can any of you recommend a good bourbon at a decent price? For reference, i would consider up to $50 a "decent price". I do like a good scotch now and then, but i really am more of a bourbon drinker, straight up. To get a feel for my tastes, i have found that i enjoy Dickel's Original and Wild Turkey (yes, the original lighter fluid). I'm curious about Jim Beam Devil's Cut, and i would like to know some…See More
