I was recently reading something about  the deleterious effects that growing up without a father or suitable male surrogate is supposed to have an a boy. It made me wonder. Personally, I have never met my father and know very little about him. However, I don't know what if any effect this has on my development. As a kid, I simply found it really bizarre to think about the idea that other kids had men in their household who were a parent in addition to their mother. Just seemed totally alien to me. Therefore, I don't think I can really understand what I may have missed, so to speak.

Did any of you guys also grow up without your father around, and if so do you feel negatively effected by that?

If anyone else has something to add despite growing up with a father, that's cool too.

Yes. Very shy and lacked confidence. Guys-older guys were around but I was too shy to take advantage of them.
