This is not a topic about how extreme a level of heat each of us likes. Such posturing is useless.

Rather, I am asking if anybody has found a remedy, or preventive measure to avoid the burning sensation that *ahem* comes out the other end the next day after eating something really spicy. I've tried Prilosec and antacids, but to no avail.

Is there a way to indulge in one's love for hot food without incurring the wrath of the bunghole?

A glass of milk?

Oh, yeah, and I meant to say: I can eat way spicier food than you.

I don't think there is really anything you can eat that will help ahead of time, tho common suggestions would be yogurt and bananas.

If the burn really bothers you - you could try petroleum jelly (before), or topical lidocaine (after) to protect and numb the affected area.

And I can totally eat spicier food than you.

Why did I just envision Beavis as Cornholio saying "I need TL for my bunghole".

I wouldn't use any petroleum products as they may catch on fire. ha ha ha.

Oh yeah, my 4 year old can eat spicier food than you!  Actually, he does like spicey food and he eats crawfish, a true Louisianian him.

without incurring the wrath of the bunghole?

So instead of "Tums for the tummy"...

a gaping anus...

Numb it with an ice cube.

A first world problem I've never encountered...

India, Asia, Mexico and the swamps of Louisiana are not exactly know for being first world locations or for their lack of spicy food. I am fairly certain they also have this problem.

Not sure where the rest of y'all are from, but speaking from Texas, site of the annual Zest Fest and Terlingua Chili Cook-off, if you eat enough of it, it won't matter anymore.  You'll get used to it, to the point where it no longer registers.

Trust me, I tried a Dorset Naga for the first time, last year.  Dang near burned off my tonsils, but the rest was no big deal.
