Should I buy a custom suit or a suit from a reputable store like "Brooks Brothers?"

I am thinking about purchasing a custom made suit from "Balani," a tailor shop here in Chicago. The cost for suits start at $800 on up. I looked up the reviews on yelp and these guys have good ratings. I took a look at the Brooks Brothers and Nordstrom websites and noticed that their off the rack suits are much more in price than this custom tailor charges. Boss suits begin at around $800 on average while the Brooks Brothers suits start at over $1,000. I am a bit perplexed as to why these off the rack suits cost more than this custom suit will. I don't want to go out and get that custom suit if I am missing some information here. Are Nordstrom or Brooks Brothers suits that much better than even the suits from a custom tailor shop?

I bought a Navy suit from Macy's this past summer for only $230, but the tailoring turned out to be horrible and I don't know if I can trust buying suits off the rack anymore. I am wondering if the experience at a place like Brooks Brothers is different though.

I have an athletic build with a developed chest. I am tall, 6'3 and 230lbs, so finding a good fitting suit is difficult for me.

Get the custom suit.  What you would get is known as made-to-measure which means that the suit is created for you in the factory based on a standard size and adjusted to your measurements.  This will yield a suit that fits you very well, most probably better than any off the rack suit, especially if finding an OTR rack suit is hard for you.  I have the same problem with OTR suits. The jackets would fit but not the pants so I would end up getting a larger jacket which never looked great.

I'm from NY and there is a great custom suit shop called LS Mens Clothing (http://www.lsmensclothing.com) that makes great suits from Coppley, a MTM brand.  Just make sure that the place you go to takes good measurements and will do whatever needs to be done to make sure you are 100% happy.  I think that once you do this you will never go back to buying suits from the rack again.

Good luck with your decision.

I will suggest you to buy a custom suits rather than choosing a suits from a reputable store.    Because custom made suits are always of premium quality and according to our fit always. JJSTAILORS deal with custom clothing, their site can also be very useful for us for taking a look on their collection.

Yes surely you should purchase custom suit also, then you will feel the difference among off-the-rack and custom suits, it is as easy as we people think like these are like ordinary suits. These are different from ordinary suits, only designers can do this like LK Tailor there are so many other tailors.
