I am enamored with science. With it's beauty, it's precision, it's logical structure. It may the greatest of mankind's tools ever devised. The study of Nature, the quest to understand it, and the pursuit of truth, based on reasoning and evidence, is a holy and righteous endeavor for a man to pursue. It combines the use of your imagination with your logical faculties. To get better at science, at learning more science and being able to apply it expertly, is a neverending quest.
Science is truly magnificent.
I ask of you, members of the forum, is there a greater skill than this, the use of science?
Being in tune with your feelings. Astrology.
I'm guessing that last one was humor?
Thing is, science is a philosophical construct. Therefore philosophy subsumes science. I am delighted by what science discovers, and find it pleasing that it does so much by attempting so little.
But I'm also delighted by love, virtue, logic. Admittedly they're not human creations, but they are things humans particpate in.
What are you and science enamored of?
Conquest. I would like to rule my own independent republic some day. Maybe somewhere down in south america.
I think knowing the ends that we should seek with our science is a skill that is greater than and not reducible to science.
I'd say man's greatest skill is to treat his fellow man with compassion and dignity in every circumstance.
I completely agree. It's amazing how far we've come in such a short time. When you think about all the different fields...medicine, physics, biology, and chemistry. Just a short leap back in human history an understanding of small science meant you knew magic. I'm a HS science teacher and love teaching my freshmen how AWESOME science is.
