Hey everyone,

So I need some help when it comes to clothing myself. As of right now I wear nothing but plaid shirts, boot cut jeans, belt buckles, and cowboy boots. I am from a small town so this kind of clothing is acceptable, except for the cowboy boots, but I've got nothing but praise from the opposite sex so I'm fine with that. Any ways I'm looking to update my wardrobe for university this coming September. I want to keep a country/rustic look as I feel it suites who I am more so than a "hipster" look. If it helps to know, I'm 6'1" and I weigh just under 170lbs.

Thanks in advance!

I like nice pearl snaps. Switch to khakis instead of jeans. Tuck your shirts in, and wear a nice belt. Tone down the belt buckle. Boots are fine, just keep them clean. Iron your clothes well. Maybe buy a few blue button up shirts.
I'm from a small southern town, and those are ways I stayed true to my roots but dressed well.

You're probably right on the belt buckle, I'll leave it for special occasions only. Never thought I'd be buying khakis but I'll try something new, not that I'll be getting rid of my Levi's and Wrangler's any time soon though. Thanks for the advice man, I'll be getting a few pearl snaps and blue shirts sometime soon.

Hi Aidan,

Check out Johnston Murphy on line for shoes, and wardrobe. You can't go wrong with the styles they offer  and the prices are pretty nice as well. Simple, classy, dressy, and casual..ties, nice print shirts and every FRYE boots which i love...OK hope this helps man. You will do just fine..choose what you like and be honest with yourself and if you have some color co-ordination issues the online displays will guide you right...Happy shopping dude!

Those shoes are beautiful but damn are they expensive. I guess the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

You might drop by and see what others are wearing, and if you admire any of it.

Where are you going to school?  At Texas A&M, for instance, jeans and boots are pretty much the required uniform.  At a lot of other schools in the South or Midwest, you probably wouldn't be looked at sideways dressed like that.  If you're headed to Yale or Berkeley or something ... you may stick out.

Far from Texas, I'm from the backwoods of Canada and I'll be moving to the closest city that's within 1000 km's. I have no problem sticking out though, my whole life's been like that so it's nothing new haha.

Stay the same, why change?

Well if you put it that way I guess I won't.

Don't ditch it.  Play up the plaid!

Be yourself.  College is, basically, day care for young adults.  In fact, most people in college are complete wastes of time, so don't worry about them.  Be yourself, the real you, and be happy about that.

If anyone has a problem with you, treat them as the waste of human skin that they are.  And move on.  It's their problem.

That's true enough, I used to hate being judged, since I've changed my attitude in life, I could care less. I'll just keep on keeping on.
