A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
-Heinlien

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro". Hunter S. Thompson. My interpretation for this quote is to be different from everybody else, not enough to be institutionalised tho.

"Good thoughts, good words, good deeds."

In other words, a man lives his life thinking good thoughts, of himself, of other people, and of the world.  Those good thoughts allow good words to be spoken to his fellow man, words that can inspire himself and others to, in turn, do good deeds.  During a Catholic Mass, there comes a part of the ceremony where one blesses himself with the sign of the cross on his forehead (good thoughts), then on his mouth (good words), and finally, on his heart (good deeds).

But it is not just Catholics or even Christians that can benefit from these words; this simple phrase can be seen by anyone as an easy recipe for one to create love in the world.

"Be Yourself, and be it well." - St. Francis DeSalles

"Maybe it's time to stop not doing what you pretended you can do and can't, and start doing the thing that you can't do, but can no longer pretend that you can."
-Jerri Blank

Regarding missing a day of piano practice when piano playing is your profession:

"Miss one day of practice and you know it. Miss two days of practice and your teacher knows it. Miss three days of practice and your audience knows it."

--quote from my major professor in college and graduate school

To be the Leader of the Pack, you must go slow enough for the pack to keep up.

-- Ed

My all-time favorite, but I don't have anybody to credit it to. It really hits you hard if you stop and think:

"Someone once told me the definition of Hell: On your last day, the person you became will meet the person you could have become"

This is another great one, because I've found it applies to my life in many ways:

"Be like a duck, remain calm on the surf but swim like hell underneath." -Michael Caine

"The best thing to do is the right thing. The next best thing is the wrong thing but the worst thing to do is nothing." ~ Theodore Roosevelt

“All men dream but not equally.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds
wake in the day to find that it was vanity;
but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men,
for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.”
— T.E. Lawrence

"Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk"

- Shaq

I keep this at my computer at work because it helps me out:

"WINNERS Look at what they want,

LOSERS Look at what they are afraid of.

"My Greatest Revenge ... Is to Live a Good Life!   I believe that, but it's hard when I get Really angry!
