So my son is out of the fancy triple blade leg shaving razors and asked me to show him how to use my saftey razor. So I went into the bathroom and showed him how to use my soap and brush, how to prep his face and how to shave without cutting himself. I left him to it and after about 15 minutes heard a blood curdling scream. He came out of the bathroom and asked why my aqua velva burned his face so bad. I had totally forgot to warn him about that. I was glad to see him shave like a man though

I use a safety razor. The kit I bought (from Art of Shaving) came with pre-shave oil, which I initially used. But after I while I just stopped using it, and my shaves haven't suffered because of it.

What I usually do is take a shower first to get the whiskers ready for a shave. If I don't have time to shower I wet my face down with warm/hot water. Shower is preferable. The I lather up and get the job done.

So to answer your question directly: no, you don't have to use all that fancy stuff. Though personally I would recommend an aftershave of some sort. It prevents razor burn, it smells good, and it stops your face from breaking out in weird razor rashes (razor burn I guess, like I said before). Pre-shave oil is not necessary. I think aftershave is, but its really up to you.

I hope this helps!

Warm Aqua Velva also stings like the dickens when used as a disinfectant on bee stings.

I shower then about 5 minutes later rub my head and face down with a mens lotion. Then I shave with the warm shaving soap and after use afta and when that dries I use aqua velva
Yeah it's still around. I use AV, brut, English leather, Stetson... Good classic manly smells. And I always get compliments. I have stuff like Alfred sung, chrome and things like that but they rarely get used
Lol. No soap on a rope. I stick to the classics as far as cologne though. My wife loves it and it reminds me of my grampa. The canoe I have but never use. It smells good but not on me

Nice! That stuff sure does sting like a b!tch.

Somehow, I'm imagining a scene out of "Home Alone" with Macaulay Caulkin...
