Prom Tux??

My senior prom will be here in the next few months (probably faster than I realize). I was wondering from gents with experience, what is the best way to acquire a tuxedo for prom? Should I rent one? Should I buy one? Also, my girlfriend's dress is a peach color, what does that mean for me? Do I wear classic black and white? Thank you in advance for any and all help, friends!

Jon,

I might suggest that you take this occasion to buy your first suit (if you don't already own one). Since your date is wearing a peach dress, you may want to look at getting a gray suit. Try Jcrew for some good ideas for a starter suit. The good thing is you can recycle it for job interviews in the near future.

That is, of course, assuming your school is not so formal that you would be an odd-man out with a regular suit. I did not wear a tux to my senior prom, but I went to prom in Los Angeles where things can be a little non-traditional. If you want to go with a tux, definitely rent one. I wear a suit every day for work, but I don't go to enough black tie events where a tux is worth the investment. Unless you live a really fabulous lifestyle, I would recommend you simply rent.
