Howdy folks...

Now that I seem to have offended just about everyone in this community in one way or another... I'd like to introduce myself   :)

My name is Elliott, and I leave in the Seattle area of the Pacific NorthWest...

I am a carpenter, gardener, and teacher of integral design and natural building techniques...

www.goldenhomedesign.com

I salvage building materials from remodels and dumpsters and repurpose them in creative ways to make functional art... like furniture and musical instruments & toys/games...

I enjoy working on my sailboat and go for picnics on the water in the lakes and Puget Sound...

I don't own a car by choice... rather prefer to walk, bike, bus or carpool where I need to go...

I have travelled all over the Americas... by boat, bicycle, car, plane, & train...

I am in the process of converting a suburban wooded lot into a food forest & micro-farm...

I collect functioning antique hand tools, toys, musical instruments, furniture, and fixtures...

I collect books; mainly about history, religion, politics, homesteading, sailing, & DIY manuals...

I read the King James Bible and started a lending library at my local Independent Baptist church...

I love the Rainbow Family of Living Light, with all of our diversity of expression and opinions... and I invite you all to come to the National Gatherings that take place between Solstice & 4th of July...

Peace, Love & Light..!

Well, I'll be the first to extend my hand (though I actually have already).

You started a dog group, which is way cool, and said great things about my dog, so you've done the opposite of offending me.

As a design-build landscape architect I really admire the environmental aspect of your work, and the fact that you bring that to your lifestyle. My hat is off to you sir. You've got a friend here in me.

Welcome, for better or worse.

Thank you kindly..  :)

Are you a man of wealth and taste?

I've been around a long, long while... seen many a man fall from grace...

I'm way too young for that reference.

Took me awhile too, and at my age..
Didn't pay attention to music until the B52s.

Does the title of this post mean that you are satan?

Some seem to think so... it's the nature of my game...  :)

As a life long fan of Bucky and Snelson, it seems we have a lot in common.

In fact, my current fascination with Frei Otto's non-linear minimal surface forms is quite compatible with, though completely opposite from your interest in natural construction.

This is going to be interesting.

bucky balls... tensegrity... geodesic domes... whats not to like..?

Having no formal schooling in architecture nor training in construction, this conversation will likely get beyond my comprehension rather quickly... so don't mind me if I stop to ask for directions along the way   :)

Tensegrity...very good!  Snelson is not nearly so well known, despite being Bucky's best student.  LOVE his needles.

In fact, there's a tensegrity icosahedron on my desk.

But my current passion is for minimal surface architecture.  It's those big, undulating, fabric sail looking installations that motivate me.  For my first full scale project, I designed a 37 foot installation that functioned as a rear projection screen for my church's VBS.

I love Sacred Geometry... Golden Ratio... Platonic Solids... etc... the elegant design forms that manifest in molecular and geological scales...

the projection screen sounds wonderful... functional art is where it's at  :)

"The practical outcome if I adopt this perspective is that women will show their rears?  I ordinarily don't like paraphrases of others' posts -- seems too much like straw man -- but you've given me nothing more to work with!"

"Ahh....the army didn't want my crooked back, dinged knees, or flat feet either. A buddy of mine (fit and smart as a whip) didn't get in to flight school because his parents were divorced (yup, that was the only reason).  If you truly…"

"I normally keep a pocket watch on me. I like them because they require a certain amount of upkeep to maintain and, being a naturally forgetful person, it helped me to discipline that part of me. Also, No Batteries. However, if they break you either…"
