Good (time of day that you're reading this),

My name's Nick DeChane; I'm a 22 year old college student at RIT and I'm a partially trained Marine Corps officer candidate. I come from a rural town in Western New York. I grew up there with my six sisters and three brothers, I'm the third oldest. I've read AoM for awhile, but didn't join until about a month ago. I wanted to get more involved in the AoM community and to start that off I'm reading all the posts in the archive from the beginning until now. I also have been listening to all of the podcasts. I learned a lot of what I know about manliness from my father and grandfather, both of who where in the military. My grandma used to call me a gentleman and a scholar, she passed away in February and I made a personal vow to live up to that; in order to honor her. This site has been a great resource in keeping that vow.

Welcome!  Sounds like your mother was a great woman, with high aspirations for her son.

Good morning Nick! Thanks for your introduction.  Sounds like you have a fascinating family of origin with excellent male and female role models.  Please accept my sympathy in the loss of your grandmother.  I am sure she will continue to provide you with inspiration to draw from throughout your life.  Good luck on your journey!  Anders

Welcome from another new guy here. Sounds like you're starting off on a great foundation.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your Grandmother, I know I was close to mine and it really leaves a vacancy in your life.

The Barbershop

It's just seems natural that Art of Manliness should have a barbershop group.  My intent of this group is to gather and share general thoughts and experiences concerning barbershops. Anything from a good barbershop that you have found  to pictures and stories of shops you have visited to discussing anything barbershop.  See More
