Leather Jacket Dilemma
Hello all! I'm a longtime lurker here and I've sure learned a lot, but I've got a bit of a dilemma on my hands. In an effort to upgrade my wardrobe without busting my college budget I've begun cruising the local thrift stores. I've had a fair bit of luck and made some good finds. One of the first things I got was a nice, black leather jacket. I liked the style, it was in good shape and fit me well, so I bought it. However, once I got it home and did a little research on the brand I discovered that it was actually a women's coat! the thing is, there's nothing about the cut or style that seems feminine, at least to me, but it still seems a bit odd to me to be wearing a women's coat. It was only $10 so it's not like I spent a lot of money on it. So I was just wondering what you guys think. OK to wear or just weird?

It looks more masculine than feminine to me. The only thing that might be a problem is the buttons. I seem to remember that women's blouses and men's shirts have opposite sides for buttons, but I don't remember and I dont' know if it extends to coats. My wife's dressy coat has buttons on left, like your coat, but I don't have a coat w/ buttons except one that has them both ways, a trench coat. Should be able to find that out online.

My advice....FWIW....For 10 bucks how wrong could a guy go. Cut out any labels that would indicate that it was designed for a woman and enjoy your find. Men and black leather go together like a fish takes to the sea. If you want it to have a manly aroma, spend an hour browsing in a cigar shop. And don't sweat the buttons.

If it bothers you wear it until you find another and then on sell the ladies jacket, but I'd keep it as there is little chance of anyone knowing and anyway if they did just say you reuse and recycle and want to leave a small footprint .

The jacket actually looks great, you rock it. Thus my opinion is: who cares what gender it was made for? It looks like it was made for you, and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Like will said the buttons are on the wrong side or the correct side for a women's clothing. Not a big deal but someone who really knows clothing might be able to spot it immediately as it is out of place on a guy. The majority of people will never notice and most of those who do won't be able to figure out why it is off. Keep it and it you find something to replace it down the road then you could probably sell a leather jacket for $20 easily online or donate back to some charity.
