My wife recently went on a ketogenic diet to assist with some health issues that have plagued her the past couple of years. The more she talks about it, the more intrigued I have become. My weight has slowly climbed in the 14 years that we've been married, and now I'm tipping the scales at about 330 pounds (which I carry pretty well on my 6'5" frame). I'm down 10 from my peak just from increasing my movement throughout the day, but I really want to kick it up a notch. I'm about to turn 35 and I'm ready to make some changes so I feel better and have more energy.
Has anyone here done the ketogenic thing, and do you have any advice for someone looking to give it a try?

As I understand it, the ketogenic diet is useful for reducing seizures. Its use for weight loss is controversial. There was a time when we feared we'd have to use it on our infant, but fortunately we got the seizures under control another way.
I also read about the anti-seizure benefits, but I haven't read much about it being controversial. To my understanding it is very similar to other LCHF diets, such as Paleo, etc.
I'm glad to hear of the success with your son's seizures. I can't imagine how scary that must be as a parent.
It works but all diets work.
The idea is to cut net carbs (total carbs - fiber) and to increase fat and protein intake to make u the calories.
The high fat content is very satisfying and you may find it's easier to eat less I know I do when i cycle on a keto plan.
I know people who go really nuts and do very low carbs (20g net carbs per day) for long periods of time but I don't think you need to really go below 40g net carbs a day this way you can still include fruits, berries and nuts and an occasional sweet potato in your diet.
drinking a lot of water is a necessity as is salting your food to replace the water and minerals you will lose due to increased urination
I have not but as long as it helps you to get healthy I think its good for you
