I have thought about this for awhile now since the subject of legalizing weed has been in the news. My friends want to start trying it, but I am not a fan of it there are to many consequences if you get caught. Also the fear of getting mentally addicted. The question is, is smoking weed manly? What are your thoughts?

American laws about ganj are totally ludicrous.  Ganj is far less harmful than drinking, yet in the USA one can buy alcohol at any gas station.  I have yet to see a pot smoker get into violent altercations, but drunken brawls are quite normal.  I do not encourage anyone to smoke or not smoke,  I myself like it.  the whole war against marijuana in the USA is soooo convoluted and layers and layers of lies.  thankfully I live in Vancouver BC where attitudes toward it are "who cares"

However please do not think that I have any anti american sentiment.  I just think the laws and consequesnces regarding pot are totally fucked up.

In my limited experience with "the weed", I can note a few things:

While there may be medicinal users who benefit from the pallative effects without the side effects of more sophisticated pharacueticals, the current medical requirements for obtaining a medical marijuana Rx in my home state is ludicrously lax.  Somehow I find it a bit difficult to believe that there are quite that many apparently otherwise hale and hearty individuals whose ills can't be handled by other, legal and OTC means.

Like anything else, someone who uses regularly is addicted to the stuff.  I know, I know, there's any number of claims/studies/what have you that state marijuana is not physically addictive.  There is such a thing as a pschological addiction to things that are not physically addictive.

The few regular stoners I've met are so laid back and mellowed out that as a rule, they don't show much ambition or motivation.

And last, in my personal experience, there's a reason the stuff is called "skunk weed".

And boy, when the weather is right, I know exactly whenever the local home cultivator is curing his recently harvested weed.  I don't know who the person is, but I know he/she ain't that far away, and I know the neighborhood doesn't get skunks that regularly.

My position is that alcohol can be consumed without getting to the point of intoxication, weed is not like that. You smoke it, you get high. That is the point of smoking it.

I don't believe it should be illegal, but I believe (only my opinion, and my way of living) that you should never enter an altered state of consciences just for recreation or to 'unwind'.

A man should keep his mind sharp and be alert at all times, and be a leader in his community, whether that is just in his home or the wider community; you cannot be focused, alert and productive if you are stoned or drunk.

This is my first post on this site and I feel strongly for it. I have written a published paper called "The Gateway Crime" My Thesis is that Marijuana is only the gateway drug because of it being illegal  In order to purchase it you must go through dishonest drug dealers, who push dangerous drugs onto you. The exposure is what allows you to move on to harder drugs, not the marijuana  There are many succesfull people who enjoy a bowl or to to relax, how is it any different then alcohol or Tobacco  It has been proven to have less ill health affects then alcohol, and almost negliable affects then tobacco. It has been said that one joint equals six cigereretts, well a person who only smokes marijuana will only need a mazimum of 2 joints a day. How many smokers smoke a pack a day? Upload Files

IMO, Its better to keep away from it. It influences your state of mind and makes you lazy. It kills your awareness and the creates negative thoughts such as paranoia that results counterproductive behavior. = UNMANLY

It also might be interesting to note that John D Rockefeller, the richest man in history was abstinent to any form of drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

And yes people close to me have gotten mentally addicted to it but I was strong and smart enough to realize the consequences. Now I don't associate myself with such individuals and had mentors and men who inspire me find me, those are my blessed relationships. I dont know about you but I only have one lifetime and I'd like it to be the best it can be.

Something that encourages passivity and that may cause depression or paranoia is not the most manly of vices.

Manly? I would not say it is, against it? I am not. Smoking weed to me should be legal just like alcohol, but does smoking it make you manly?, to me no. I know plenty of women who smoke it, and if and only if it was legal would be when I smoked it. Then to add the level of manly to it I would apply the same rule I have for drinking, do it in moderation, at the right time and place.

Just my views.

no its not

Smoking weed is not manly for several reasons. First of all, its against the law. Second, when you start smoking weed and pthe rpeople find out, you are automatically hit with the stigma of being a "pot head". That decreases your cool factor, chance with girls, etc. drastically. Also, a true man will be able to have fun and enjoy himself while being completely sober. If you have to get high in order to have a good time, your not much of a man to begin with.

I understand where you are coming from, but do you also agree with "if you have to drink to have a good time, youre not being a man"?  The majority of the American population is ok with drinking and think they need it to have a good time.

Its not what a man puts in his body that makes him manly, its what comes out of his mouth and his work ethic and the way he treats his family.  If he can talk smart, work hard and take care of his family, nothing is wrong with smoking pot or drinking.  Its when you put these things ahead of your duties as a man.

Im not going to lie, I smoke pot multiple times a week.  I work on my feet all day, 6 days a week most of the time and because of that Im in pain at times.  Is it unmanageable?  No, most of the time I just push the pain to the back of my mind.  But it sure is nice coming home, making dinner, smoking and relaxing.  The guys I work with are prescribed pain medication from their doctor and their moods are constantly up and down, if they dont eat enough their sick, etc.

The problem today seems to be that a lot of people that smoke pot, flaunt it and are stupid about.  Been to Colorado or Washington State lately?  There are some of the most responsible people smoking now and staying away from pain medication.

Smoking weed is great.  But judging if its manly depends on what you do when you high. I mean if you live in your Mom's basement and blaze while playing xbox 24/7 that's not very manly.  But there is nothing wrong with having a toke occasionally with your friends.

The responsse to your question is, if your comforttable trying with good friends and environment, yes sure. If your not sure don't try it. It's like with eveything like alcohol or anything else. I tried it and liked. End of the the day it's up to you. Thanks
