OK. I admit it. I have a secret love for hats.

Always have.

I thin it started with my childhood idolization of Indiana Jones and continued on with my admiration for the 1920's style gangster look via The Untouchables.

I just like hats. Proper hats.

The problem is that I don't have the guts to purchase one.

That said, I am coming out of the proverbial hat closet only enough to admit that I have an "unnatural" attraction to them. However, I still do not possess the intestinal fortitude to act on my seemingly unnatrual and possibly unfashionable desires.

I admire the man who proudly display's a non-baseball / sports related hat on his dome. But, alas...I admire from afar and from the confines of my darkened closet.

Perhaps someday...a fedora.

Perhaps someday...a member of the "Manly Hat's Club"

Until then...I'm not worthy.

Anyone care to donate one?

7 3/8. :)
I've been thinking about a derby lately as well, and I think that if you go with gray or brown you avoid the costumey look you'd get with a black one.
After my late Dad lost half of one ear to skin cancer, I started taking headgear seriously. What I discovered was that hats are definitely fun. My taste runs to the fedora, a la Indiana Jones. Reading about hats in the "Art of Manliness" has opened my eyes to the names and styles and I intend to support the resurgeance of male headgear.
Stay away from the black fedoras or any hat with a brim wider than 2 inches.

A trilby's always a good choice so long as you stay away from pinstripes. Leave that for teenage girls.

The most important thing though is to wear your hat with a fresh coat of "Hell Yeah." Like everything else in the world, pulling off a sweet hat is 90% confidence, 10% everything else.
Nothing wrong with a black fedora. And the brim width depends on your head/face and preference, honestly. I personally don't like much past 2 1/2, but also don't want a puny little brim, either, which is why I loath trilbys (besides the fact that they just look too "old man" to me).

But you are correct on the attitude part! Just get it and do it. Be confident and wear it without fearing to stand out!
Well folks, I have come out of the closet! I finally made the leap today and purchased this hat:

http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/product/paperbraid-fedora-bailey-mon...

I bought it from a local shop so I know it fits on my fat head. Looks good and I'm glad I am finally out of the closet and "out" about my true feelings about hats and who I am. Thanks for the support guys!
Wear it with pride. I've always wondered why more people in Arizona don't wear hats, especially in the summer. Ever since I moved to Sacramento last summer I've noticed that lots of people here wear hats year round and I've indulged in my own love of hats. If I come back to AZ I'm definitely going to continue wearing hats.
More black hats sold ever year 1000 to one over any other color. My least favorite color but that is just me.
That does look pretty sharp!
Go for it! There are hat stores. Hats in the Belfry is a frequent chain on the East Coast. And in Britain, I go to Marks & Spencer for caps -- the ones with the short brim in the front. Then again, I don;t have much hair. So, a hat or cap helps with avoiding sunburn.
I wore my straw fedora to the local baseball game last week. My friends did give me an odd look at first...then my friend Neil told me "You are like the only guy that has balls enough to wear a hat like that".....which some people would take as an insult...I took it as a compliment..being brave enough to make wise fashion choices is a plus! Another man at the ballpark said "Loving the hat man!" Since I bought it..I've had 3 girls wear it on their heads...I've had 5 guys compliment my hat and how great I look in it. I wear my wool fedora to school. Children love it and always want to touch it, hold it, try it on...my co workers have told me how much they love the hat and how much they admire my style and class. I've always loved these type of hats..Just go to a hat store sometime...get help..try a bunch on..and read up on AOM articles about how to find the perfect hat.
Glad you made the same discovery I finally did -- everyone else is insecure about wearing hats, too! Most think they look cool and WANT to wear one, but don't have, in your friend's vernacular, the "balls" to do so!

Guys admire them, women adore them...just do it!

Nothing says confidence like a nice suit and a snazzy fedora!!

Dressing For the inner you.

So I found myself entranced in conversation to a wealthy man... ,okay I misinform a very wealthy man, earlier in the week and something he said stuck with me. He said when he started his career as an entrepreneur he didn't have very good luck his business plans always fell through because he wasn't taken seriously... till he changed his style, see he dressed like everyone else had no distinction so when he dressed for his inner businessman that all changed and now he is very wealthy.       …See More
