My brother is turning 21 this summer and he just moved out into his own apartment. He works for a renovation/construction company, plays video games, is built like a brick house kinda guy.

I am visiting his place for the first time and want to get him a good manly/useful/tasteful housewarming gift.

Any suggestions?

A flat of cans of soup.

You might want to find out if he could use it at his place, but a grill rarely goes unappreciated.  Other ideas: Crystal decanter for whiskey (Ravenscroft makes some nice ones at reasonable prices); Doormat with his name or initial; cigar box; Decent set of beer glasses (English pint glasses are always a good choice).

When my wife's brother went to college, we took him shopping at Ikea.  He's a little more artsy and knew exactly what to do with an orange lambswool throw rug, however.  That's not to say that a more rugged fella wouldn't appreciate some interior decorating.  It helps a lot with the ladies...

It's not particularly manly, but if he doesn't have a washer/dryer in unit, he'll probably need quarters.  A few rolls of quarters would be a temporary, though much appreciated gift.

My folks bought me a decent entry-level propane grill for my first Father's Day (a little backward, I know), which was also the first grilling season in my new home here in Montana. It was a Godsend, allowing us to save a LOT of money by grilling over the summer.

Power tools.  Given his job, maybe better find out what he doesn't have.

Wine is conventional for people who like it, manly or not.

A nice bottle of scotch.

Oban, if you can swing it.

+1 on the scotch.  Excellent utilization of Marvin by the way.
My uncle used to have the perfect housewarming gift. A few metal coat hangers tied together with a bow
This may be hackneyed, but a bottle of red wine, a loaf of sourdough bread, and a container of salt.
BEST thing you can do is HOOK that kitchen up.

Find him some good glasses, simple sturdy silverware, decent plates and good pots and pans to cook out of. A nice set of highball glasses for proper drinks, good plates and good silverware make the difference. Stuff that he wouldnt go out an spend for himself. Pier One Imports or Target has good stuff.

When he has a girl over and serves her up a meal or a drink and its not a 7/11 slurpee big gulp cup hes serving it makes the difference. I brought my house when I was 26 and nothing felt better than being able to host a few of the guys over for drinks or a nice lady friend and not have a busy gaggle of assorted crap in the kitchen.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!!! They're really helpful, I think I have a good amount to go on now! Thanks again!

Stay manly.

a beer stein or something useful for the kitchen.
I think I'll look into a nice set of glasses that can double for every day glasses and gentlemanly spirits...not that it's easy to hear you saying "when he has a lady over" (he's my youngest bro) but here's hoping she's a lady in every way that a man should be manly! Thanks again for the tips guys!

A Poem by some one that I knowTake nothing lightlyBy Bjorn FaknamTake nothing lightly. No vain promise give. Hold your honor tightly, In the one life we live.Do not throw trust away, Whether in you or from you. Live up to it today, In everything you do.Look with respect. Follow honor to the letter. Use the courtesy you expect. Nay, treat them better. No matter what gifts you were given, You are never above yourself. "Well "stylish" can mean many things. Personally, for around $100, I would look at the Seiko 5 series. These are very solid automatic movements (no batteries, but no winding either - if you wear them). They are built well, and there is a…"
