I'm thinking of getting a tattoo
I want to know if it will have any effect on being hired in the business world. It would not be visible at all with a t-shirt and could be easily concealed with any sort of business wear.

If it is hidden, there is no reason for them to know you have it, so no reason why it would have any effect

Lots of business men have tattoos - it's very common by 2012. You've already stated that no one could see it in your business clothes, so go for it!

Unless it boosts or diminishes you self-confidence :). Personally, I wouldn't do it. Your body doesn't need to be injected with ink to be impressive.

Think damn hard about it. A tatt is for life, not just for Christmas. You have to believe 100% in why you want it. If you do, then make sure it is damn personal, like your DNA. Getting rid of it will burn worse than hell.
Take a long, hard look at all the fashion victims with their pointless tatts and imagine your kids thinking of how unimaginative daddy was back in 2012.

In your industry, are naked photos the norm? If so, then it may impact your career.

My question is why get one at all? It used to be a rather unique thing to do (and even then it wasn't for me) but now everybody seems to get them. I never understood the attraction.
However, to answer your question, I suppose it depends on what you get, where you get it, and how discrete you are with it if necessary. Then again, if you feel it is something you may need to hide, why get it at all? Which brings me back to where I started.

if your going to get one it should carry a deep meaning like the name of a dead realtive or something with symbolic meaning. The point of geting one is to keep a memory close and forever it shouldnt be a flash of what looks good to you at any given time.

I disagree. There are plenty of reasons people get tattoos and they don't need to have any kind of meaning. Would you go into someone's house and ask them what a painting on their wall meant?
With that said, I have gotten tattoos with meaning, and ones without. The one with meaning I put more thought into and am happy with years later. The one without isn't bad, but I could have gotten something better I think and I wish I had put more thought into it.
If I could go back, I probably wouldn't get any tattoos, but I don't completely regret having them either. Since I have them already, I will likely end up with more (if I ever have the money for more).

I could argue the bit about deep meaning. But, all tattoos have a story.
We are not born with tattoos. Which means that every single person with a tattoo made a decision to walk in and get a specific tattoo put onto his/her body.
That means there is a story. And yes, I most certainly *do* ask about those stories. Some are as mundane as getting drunk one night. Others are commemorative. Others, still, represent significant people in their lives. I enjoy hearing those stories.
And, yes, I do ask about paintings/art too.

I like when people ask about my tattoos. I didn't get the tattoos for them, but it is nice that they care enough about me to ask. And if they are a prick about asking or have some superficial judgement, then it tells me what I need to know about their character.
