I loathe it.  It's this big bulky useless thing in my pocket.  Are there any alternatives to the wallet?  I know one should always carry cash.  (Random - how much cash should a man carry?)  Aside from cash - I have 2 debit cards (soon to be one), my drivers license, student ID, and insurance card.  What should I do?

And think of the negatives.  Not the least of which would be someone standing near the door of the store, pinging everyone's chips as they pass by, with a wireless scanner.

Imagine how much easier identity theft could be!

There are reasons for RFID blocking wallets, already.  Using off the shelf components, right now, I could cobble together a scanner for under $50, given a little effort...

As I said earlier.  I expect, if such implantation became common, a market for RFID blocking jewelry and accessories.

Interesting business opportunity. If the gov't decided to implant the chips underneath the skin on the skull those folks who already wear tinfoil hats would be spared the extra expenditure.

Why with the wallets, Chuck?

Same basic problem.  The embedded RFID chips in today's credit/debit cards can be scanned, wirelessly, with a scanner that's easy to build and interface.  It requires very simple equipment and software that is easily available to anyone with even the slightest tech skills.

Technologically speaking, I could walk through the checkout aisles at WalMart or Neiman Marcus, and harvest dozens of identities by scanning their chips, without their knowledge.  It's not difficult, and it doesn't require physical contact.

Yikes!

And that video, and the technology it shows, is 4 years old.  Imagine how much easier it is, now.

Double yikes.

Scan your chip and clone it. Hey, I'm you too, or worse a simple EM pulse to wipe your chip out after scanning it and then you're a cipher and I'm you. Love my new home, bank account, and car, thanks.

You guys take all the fun out of the future, lol.
There close , I have a PIN number back door lock , for a while there they had an app that payed the train ticket by phone same with the vending machine , the grocery store had a trolley scanner debited your account , but they never took off , I think it was to soon .

Front pocket wallets is what I have moved to. Credit card, debit card, id, cash in the clip, medical insurance card, a picture of the wife and that is pretty much it.

+1

I took the thin removable part with clear windows from a passcase wallet. It is really slim. I carry in it credit/debit card, driver's licence, and insurance card. I always carry it in my front trouser pocket or in my coat. I usually carry about $20 (might be more or less depending on where I'm at). My brothers laugh at me for having a wallet that is so small because they have this big ol' beefy motorcycle chain wallets.
