Greetings,

I am an infantry marine currently deployed to Afghanistan. This is my 2nd combat tour to Afghanistan (lucky enough to have internet access this time) and I also had one to Iraq.  I am a mortarman by trade, but since we aren't using mortars here anymore my platoon has been broken down into a provisional rifle platoon, in which I am a squad leader.  I was recently promoted to Sergeant and have been in going on 6 years now.  After this deployment I intend to get out of the military and go back to finish my Mechanical Engineering degree at Penn State University.

I am 23 years old, turning 24 in August.  I am married with no kids, but a dog that we treat like a son.

Some of my manly interests include cigar smoking, pipe smoking (tobacco only of course) shaving with a straight razor, and my cars (VW GTI and VW CC)

I love this site and am so glad I found it. I look forward to contributing to the forums and getting more insight on all things man.

Cheers,

Alex

When you get out there's options with the military other than SMCR to finish out your retirement.  There's IMA, IRR, you can switch to a different branch/National Guard (I hear those NG SF units are comprised of a lot of prior service Marines), if you get a Federal Job your retirement points will transfer.  There are a lot of really, really, really cool deployment opportunities you can take advantage of as well.  Even if you're burned out and say no way never again, do a bunch of MCI's or MarineNet courses to bump up your Reserve Points and keep sat. years while you finish out your IIR time.  You might change your mind in the next two years and want to play again.

Welcome to AoM, Alex.
