As spring is coming in the next couple of months I want think about what to wear when I am out with the family that looks good - my old 1998 vintage bucket hat needs to go and a baseball cap doesn't help my neck or ears.
I am pretty pale skinned and so I burn easily - I wear a hat to prevent having to deal with buckets of sunscreen all of the time. I am also a father of 2 and in my 40s so something that looks good on a younger man may look like a mid life crisis on me.
What are you wearing?

I know rodeo is big up in Canada, so there should be some good western wear shops. Could you get away with something like this? It's a good look, if you have it shaped for you. If you'd prefer something different, there's usually a good selection of styles from which to choose.
As for the mid-life comment, so much of that is nothing more than the confidence with which you wear it. If you feel like an idiot, you'll look like an idiot. If you wear it with confidence, you'll look fine.

Permalink Reply by Jack Bauer on February 11, 2013 at 3:25pm I've been thinking of getting something like that. Summer vacation to Florida coming up, and I need to get a comfortable hat to wear. Haven't owned a cowboy hat in a long time. Maybe something with a little less brim, though. Maybe a "Raylan Givens" look, rather than that flyaway brim.

I wear an Akubra Snowy River, with my own bash to it, just about every day. Akubra makes some great hats in a wide range of styles, and I believe there are some cotton twill hats that might wear a lot like your bucket hat.

Something like this, though good panama straw hats are expensive. My favorite summer hat is similar to this one: http://www.jpressonline.com/genuine-panama-hat-navy-and-red-stripe/
