Gun Control .....oxymoron......We a need discussion especially now

Bad guys will always get their hands on guns for bad reasons.  Good men will always seek permits and be responsible owners.  Guns don't wear out and they will not go away.  What do we as a nation and a people do to resolve the issues.  As long as bad guys can get guns there really is no gun control.  Most responsible gun owners say gun control is hitting the target consistently.  This weekend in Connecticut a State Trooper has been assigned to every family who lost a child.  This weekend those families are "safe".  How do we protect our children and our adults since we cannot assign a trooper to every individual all of the time. There is no safe place. No safe community, house of worship, school, theatre, shopping center or hospital. We are not "safe" in the city nor in the country.  We now train and arm airline pilots and I've heard messages suggesting arming teachers.  I have known and worked with several physicians who were armed.  Let's discuss as responsible men who want to set the appropriate policy and do what is best in this country.

Other considerations: Law enforcement response.....Dial 911 and an army of police will respond after the slaughter.  In both the events in Oregon and in Connecticut, law enforcement did not fire a shot.  They responded rapidly but too late. Is police response an outdated concept?

Safety procedures and heroism....Are children safe hiding in their cubbies or behind a book shelf?  Should a teacher or principal, or any adult for that matter need to sacrifice their own life to be a hero?  How much protection can a dead hero offer?

Take it to the Great Debate or a similar group.  The site owner wants to keep political and religious debates and rants off the main page.

I understand the passion people have for this topic, but please keep these sorts of threads in the Great Debate. They tend to devolve in heated political debates which is something we don't allow on the main forum. Thank you.

From the Grammarphobia blog.Q: In a recent radio appearance, you said the idea that “he” can refer to any human being – man or woman – was introduced in the 18th century by a female grammarian. I think you’re wrong. The concept of male as universal has been around much longer.A: If by “male as universal,” you mean using male pronouns (“he,” “him,” and “his”) for women as well as men, the idea did indeed begin in the 18th century. Before then – for two centuries, in fact – it was considered…See More

The death of neck ties?

I heard that according to researches that the neck tie is expected to become obsolete in the next few decades. Because more and more men are dressing more casually these days thanks to Facebook and google where the CEO shows up in jeans and a hoodie. So is the neck tie really becoming obsolete or are men just not caring about his personal appearance? Please feel free to give your taken on this.See More

"What are you looking for, in terms of style?   Where I live, a "white" straw cowboy hat is very common.  Affordable, too.   "
