Good afternoon gents.
My name is Liam, I'm 25 and I'm originally from South Shields, England (which is on the North East coast near Newcastle and Sunderland) but I'm currently living in York, England, where I'm studying Film & TV Production at university.
Several years ago, my kidneys failed for reasons I don't fully understand and I needed to go for dialysis three times a week. That is, until the end of last year (December 29 to be exact) when I received a kidney transplant completely out of the blue to round off what was a surprisingly good year for me. Before the transplant, I'd considered 2012 to be the best year of my life so far and, the year ending the way it did, I took it as a sign and now I'm determined to keep things on the up and I'm making it my mission to become a better all round man (and person) in 2013. What better place to start, right?

How do you like living in York? Is this a big difference from South Shields?

I'm surprised how humbling it's been, knowing someone has died and left his organs for people like me. I know he was fairly young and had some kind of brain stem injury, but that's as much as I could find out.
I'm into my final year at uni now and, knowing how difficult it is to make a living through making films, I'm planning on getting a full time job for a couple of years before really trying to pursue it, just so I've got some money to fall back on should it not go to plan.
I love living in York, it's such a picturesque and historic city, a lot different from South Shields, which is a market town, albeit a fairly big one. South Shields is a much rougher area than York and gets a bad reputation for it, but it is a nice, friendly place in general, but I feel more at home in York these days.

Network, Network, Network. Internships are not too bad either. I did a 2 day internship for a small production company. I was an "intern" but i wanted to be classified as a Production Assistant. It sounds much more professional on a resume.
