Found this article on Fashion Beans which shows how to pair a dress shirt & tie.  Cool color wheel guide too. Figured I'd share.

Pretty good stuff. I'm more of a conservative/ basic guy myself. Only wear blue or white dress shirts with a solid color tie. I only own one power tie, and that rarely gets worn.

I just go Solid and Solid.

They need to do the "look books" with the model's head removed.  It alters what people think of the look and gives you an impression of who should use that look.

Otherwise I like it.

Solid and solid holds true but there's something Suave-laden about Paisley ties.

Solid tie with solid or patterned shirt.

Patterned tie with solid shirt.

Colors complementary.

What you have to watch is the suiting  the shirt is paired with.  Way back, about 40-odd years ago, when the "Dress for Success" book was first written, the author had a specific comment that one client admired his combinations of shirt & tie, but noted some of the best ones were questionable in the work venue (The client was described as a law firm, referencing their in-courtroom work.).

I'd be a little cautious about pink dress shirts in general.  The acceptability of a pink shirt depends more on the culture of the particular employer, the employer's industry, and the employer's customer base.  the practicality of a pink shirt also depends on the complexion of the person wearing it.  Personally, I avoid pink as it doesn't go well with my complexion.  Other guys can wear it with no problem at all.

I wouldn't wear pink shirts for work either though they make you stand out. Perhaps a white shirt with light pink pin stripes, but that's as far as it goes.

I like the color wheel; that's hard to find.  I wish I could find one that includes brown, black, and gray, though.  Those colors make up three of my four go-to pants colors.  It's easy enough to match colors to brown or black, but gray is a challenge for me, especially as I try to keep my shirts light-colored (the recommendation for my body shape is dark on the bottom, light on the top).

I prefer a solid light colored shirt with a classic geo or floral patterned tie. The accents in the ties are dark to match my jackets and the color's compliment the shirt and pocket square. Generally I go with blue, white, lavender, and black shirts depending on the occasion but never pink. I am comfortable with my sexuality and I don't need to wear a pink shirt to try and prove it to everyone.

BTW, if anyone is interested, our business curates a neckwear selection for you on a monthly basis based on your style preferences. you start with choosing a high level tie style (business or skinny or whimsical ties) - and then over time you can build up your preference profile and make statements such as "i like stripes" or "i hate paisely" and so forth and you get individualized tie selections based on that.

I'm a solid shirt and tie guy - nothing to crazy.  I guess I do own some Jerry Garcia ties (purchased by my wife), which are a little too "out there" for me to wear.  My daily dress attire is dress slacks and a polo when it's warm, I'll throw a long sleeve and tie on occassionally, but not often.  I have to point out that I'm in a very rural area, very few wear ties, and most people in the area are blue-collar workers or farmers (or an ag industry).
