So I'm getting a new job soon and will have a little bit of money coming in that I normally wouldn't. I've decided I'm sick of having nothing but ratty jeans, t-shirts, and boots and that I'd like to stop dressing like I did in high school. Perhaps more difficult than buying clothes will be finding ones that fit though. I can NOT find any pair of pants that fit. I have to either choose between having a too tight waist and hips with barely short enough legs, or an oversized waist that goes up past my bellybutton and legs that are too long and inevitably get ripped and ruined from the back my heel stepping on them. I need a taylor, but I've searched around the web and come up with nothing in my area. Am I destined to look like a schmuck? If it matters I'm in metrowest count in Massachusetts.

My friend, if you spell it like that, you'll never find a tailor. Taylor is a name. Tailor refers to the profession. Try searching with the proper spelling and see if you get better results in your area. Best of luck!

Well, there are plenty of tailors around, but if you're doing a search for "taylor" (with a "Y") that might be the problem.

Many dry cleaners do tailoring. If you're in Boston, there's Jack's Tailoring in Porter Square.

I would suggest Taylor Swift, Taylor Dayne or Taylor Made.

Not only does virtually every dry cleaner in my area do some tailoring, but last time I looked, mens wear stores, I'm thinking of Mens Wearhouse for one, have tailors on staff to alter clothing, especially pants to fit.

Oh, and please don't rely exclusively on your word processor's spellcheck and autocorrect.  Never a good thing.

If you are only looking for minor alterations (hemming length, or adjusting the waistband), check at local Dry Cleaners or many department stores either provide, or can recommend people.

If you are looking to actually have clothing and suits made from scratch (bespoke) or made to measure then your options will be more limited depending on location - you'll probably have to go into Boston or a larger metropolis.

There are also many manufacturers who offer different sizes when you order online, allowing different mixes of waist and leg-length than may be found in stores.

Wow. I'm normally such a spelling nazi. I don't even know how I let that get by.  I was reading a story with a character named Taylor, so I'm gonna blame it on that.

And no I just need minor alterations. I buy most of my clothes at thrift stores,  but I'm considering getting just a few nice shirts, pants, ect. and tailoring them to fit. I get a uniform at work and I can just use my pre-existing mountain of t-shirts for around the house but I'd really like to step it up a notch for dates or social outings or just for feeling good about how I look.

Expand your search terms to include "alterations" and "seamstress" - Anyone using the term "tailor" is probably really overqualified for that work...

You should be able to find someone nearby you can reliably bring things to.

Yeah, Liam's advice is good. Those other search terms may be a bit more refined in terms of the work you are looking for. Let us know how it goes!

Andy Taylor was the sheriff of Mayberry.

And Justice of the Peace, and Court Commissioner.

"Good luck on this. You'll be hard pressed to find a news source that isn't slanted in one direction or another. I am suspect of all media that presents things in a biased way, which seems to put me at odds with every source. "

Good sources for political opinions?

Most political sources online or in the media are pretty awful. Most online message boards especially are havens for fighting and lunatic fringe views.I've been doing a little research to find get an idea of what some more professionally written sources are - If anyone can give me some advice I'd appreciate. On the bottom of the barrel I rank minor blogs, Youtube channels, and most political message boards (where any anonymous person can contribute; ex. Democratic Underground). Just up from that…See More
